Meeting Disneyland Paris characters: virtual queues, waits, and tips
Getting a photo with Mickey or the Princesses is often high on the list, but it means dealing with wait times that can quickly feel endless. I’ve been exploring the parks since 1997, and I know how to meet the Disneyland Paris characters without giving up half your day. In this FAQ, I’ve gathered all my practical tips for finding the official meet and greet spots in the app, mastering the virtual queues at the Hero Training Center, and understanding how the Princess Pavilion works, since it has its own very particular system. I also cover smart alternatives, like character dining. Here’s my method for collecting photos and autographs without standing around for hours.
01 How do you meet Disney characters at Disneyland Paris?
There are four main ways to meet a character: in the park by waiting in a regular standby line, at dedicated spots with a virtual queue in the Disneyland Paris app, at a character meal (character dining), or at some official Disney hotels. If you can’t get a meet and greet, you’ll still see the characters in the parades and shows.
02 How does a meet and greet with a regular standby line work in the park?
Find where the meet and greet takes place (shown in the Disneyland Paris app and in the daily Program), then get in line on the spot. The wait time depends on the character and the time of day. Once it’s your turn, you get a few moments for a photo and an autograph.
03 What’s a virtual queue character meet, and how does it work?
For some very popular meet and greets (princesses, Marvel heroes at Avengers Campus...), you don’t wait in a physical line. You grab a time slot in the Disneyland Paris app ahead of time, then come back at the time shown. The system is free, but slots go fast. I recommend trying as soon as the park opens.
04 How does a character meal (character dining) work?
You book a restaurant where characters stop by your table during the meal. Each visit comes with a photo and an autograph. Booking is highly recommended, sometimes several weeks ahead. You’ll find prices and the full list in my Restaurants FAQ and in my dedicated article.
05 Which Disney hotels offer character meet and greets?
Almost all of them. The Disneyland Hotel, Disney Hotel New York - The Art of Marvel, Newport Bay Club, Sequoia Lodge, Disney Hotel Cheyenne, and Disney Hotel Santa Fe all offer meet and greets, in the lobby or near the front desk, usually just for hotel guests. Only Disney’s Davy Crockett Ranch has none. The schedules vary by hotel and by season, so ask at the front desk as soon as you arrive.
06 Where can I still see my favorite characters if a meet and greet isn’t possible for me?
All the characters appear in the parades and shows, which are free and included with your ticket. You can also spot them during the occasional musical moments in Central Plaza or in some of the lands. See my Shows & Parades FAQ for details.
07 How can I tell which characters will be around on the day I go?
In the Disneyland Paris app (in the "Today in the park" or "Characters" section) and on my blog. The schedule changes every day, and some meet and greets are only announced that same morning.
08 Do you need a reservation to meet a character?
It depends on the format. For a regular standby line: no, just show up. For a virtual queue: yes, you need to grab a time slot in the Disneyland Paris app. For character dining: yes, booking is highly recommended. For hotel meet and greets: no, they’re usually included for hotel guests.
09 Do meet and greets come with PhotoPass photos?
Yes. Most standby and virtual queue meet and greets have an official PhotoPass photographer on hand. If your PhotoPass bundle is active, the photos are included. Otherwise, you can buy them individually afterward. For character meals, you’ll generally snap the photos with your own cameras.
10 What’s a Disneyland Paris Magic Shot?
A Magic Shot is a photo effect from the Disney PhotoPass service, not an in-person meet and greet. A Disney photographer snaps your picture at a specific spot, then a character (Mickey, Stitch, Olaf...) or an effect is added to the image by computer. You’ll find the result in your PhotoPass account. It’s quick, there’s no line, and it’s a fun way to take home a one-of-a-kind souvenir.
11 Are there meet and greets suited to guests with reduced mobility or special needs?
Yes. Wheelchair users can access the meet and greet areas, and Cast Members adjust how they interact. If your child has particular needs (autism, anxiety, and so on), tell the Cast Member at the entrance, who can set up a quieter moment. You can also check my Accessibility FAQ.
12 What time do character meet and greets start?
The first meet and greets usually begin right at park opening, around 9:30-10:00 depending on the character. Some happen only in the morning, others only in the afternoon, and some in both time slots. The exact times change every day, and you can look them up in the official Disneyland Paris app and on my blog.
13 Where can I find Mickey Mouse at Disneyland Paris?
You can meet Mickey at Meet Mickey, in Fantasyland, by booking through the official app. You can also see him through a regular standby line at Disney Adventure World, near the lake.
14 Which Disney characters can I meet at Disneyland Paris?
You can run into lots of iconic characters: Mickey, Minnie, Pluto, Goofy, the Disney Princesses, Stitch, Woody, Marvel heroes, The Mandalorian and Grogu, Anna and Elsa, and many more. The lineup changes with the seasons and special events.
15 Is character dining a good fit for young kids?
Yes, very much so. The characters take time to greet every table, which kids love, and there are kids’ menus. Breakfast is calmer and often ideal with little ones. I recommend booking well ahead, especially in peak season, since these meals are often fully booked several weeks in advance.
16 Which Disney hotel has princess meet and greets?
Head to the Disneyland Hotel, the iconic hotel that sits at the gates of Disneyland Park, with a royal theme throughout. At its character restaurant, princesses stop by while you eat (reservations recommended). To find all the other places, check out my guide to meeting the princesses at Disneyland Paris.
