Which season to pick for your Disneyland Paris visit

I’ve been coming in just about every season since 1997, and I’ve tried out each period as an annual passholder since 2016. Halloween packed on October 31, Christmas season nearly empty on a Tuesday in January: I’ll tell you straight which one to aim for.

MethodThe seasons at a glance, month by month

From early January to late December, here’s how the year is laid out at Disneyland Paris.

January
January · After the holidays

January: the quietest time of year

The Christmas season wraps up in early January. What’s left afterward: no decorations, few people, shorter lines. It’s one of the best times to enjoy the rides without any special strategy. Hotel and ticket prices are at their lowest.

April: the park’s anniversary and spring

April 12 marks the anniversary of Disneyland Paris. Milder weather, longer park hours, special entertainment around the date. French spring break pushes attendance up, so check the French school zones before you book. It’s a good time for a first visit.

July
July to August · Summer season

Summer: the liveliest and the busiest

July and August are the most crowded months of the year (outside the event seasons). Long lines, heat, high prices, but very long park hours, until 22:40 on some days. Summer works best for families with young kids, who mind the waits less. Skip it if you’re going solo or as a couple and have your eye on the big rides.

October
October-November · Halloween

Halloween season: my favorite time

Starting in late September or early October and lasting until early November, Halloween takes over Disneyland Paris. Main Street gets decked out from end to end, there’s a special parade, characters show up in costume, and October 31 brings its own party night. If you’re an adult, or you’d like a mood that’s nothing like summer, this is the period I’d point you to first.

December
November-January · Christmas season

Christmas season: the most popular, the best decorated

Early November through early January, Christmas decorations cover every corner of the park. Main Street lights up, a snow show takes the stage, and seasonal characters come out. December 31 has an evening all its own, capped by special fireworks at midnight. Demand peaks at this time of year, so reserve your hotel and restaurants far in advance.

Frequently asked questions

Your questions, my answers

The questions that land most often in my emails and DMs. Answers with real numbers, double-checked and tested on site.

01 Which major seasons and events does Disneyland Paris hold?

Two big seasons shape the year: Halloween (from September 26 to November 1) and Christmas (from November 7 to January 6). On top of those come special days (the park’s anniversary on April 12, Star Wars Day on May 4, July 14) and sometimes festivals.

02 When is the best time to visit Disneyland Paris?

The quietest months are January, March, and September. If crowds bother you, steer clear of July-August, Toussaint (the French fall school break, during Halloween season), the Christmas break, and weekends in May. During the week, Tuesday, Wednesday, and Thursday remain the best days, and Saturday is the busiest. On the flip side, the Halloween and Christmas seasons bring extra decorations and shows, at the cost of bigger crowds.

03 What are this year’s Halloween season dates at Disneyland Paris?

The Halloween season runs from September 26 to November 1 at Disneyland Park. The pumpkin decorations are concentrated on Main Street U.S.A. and in Frontierland, with Disney villain meet and greets and a dedicated parade. On October 31, both parks extend their hours into the evening (exact times on the official calendar).

04 What are this year’s Christmas season dates at Disneyland Paris?

The Christmas season runs from November 7 to January 6 across both parks, though Disneyland Park gets most of the decorations. Expect Christmas trees, lights, and artificial snow everywhere, along with a holiday parade and lots of characters to meet in festive outfits. It ranks among the most loved, and most crowded, times of the year.

05 Are there other limited-time seasons during the year?

Yes, several shorter seasons can be added during the year depending on the lineup: the Disney Music Festival, themed seasons in some years. Dates and themes change from one year to the next. For the latest program, check the official Disneyland Paris website and my seasonal articles.
