Which season to choose for your Disneyland Paris trip

I’ve been coming in almost every season since 1997, and I’ve tested each period with my annual pass since 2016. Halloween packed on 31 October, the Christmas season almost empty on a Tuesday in January: I’ll tell you honestly which Disneyland Paris events to aim for.

MethodThe seasons planner, month by month

From early January to late December, here’s how the year works at Disneyland Paris.

January
January · After the holidays

January: the quietest time of the year

The Christmas season ends in early January. What’s left afterwards: no decorations, few people and shorter queues. It’s one of the best times to enjoy the rides without any particular strategy. Hotel and ticket prices are at their lowest.

April
April · Spring and anniversary

April: the park’s anniversary and spring

12 April marks the anniversary of Disneyland Paris. Milder weather, longer opening hours and special entertainment around the date. The French spring school holidays push visitor numbers up, so check the holiday zones before you book. It’s a good time for a first visit.

July
July to August · Summer season

Summer: the liveliest and the busiest

July and August are the busiest months of the year (outside the event seasons). Long queues, heat and high prices, but much longer opening hours, until 22:40 on some days. Summer suits families with young kids best, as they mind the queue times less. Avoid it if you’re on your own or a couple and you’re after the big rides.

October
October to November · Halloween

The Halloween season: my favourite time

From late September or early October to early November, Disneyland Paris switches to Halloween mode. Decorations all along Main Street, a special parade, characters in costume and a dedicated party on 31 October. It’s the time I recommend first to adults and to anyone who wants a different atmosphere from summer.

December
November to January · Christmas season

The Christmas season: the most popular, the best decorated

From early November to early January, the whole park is decorated for Christmas. Lights on Main Street, a snow show and seasonal characters. The evening of 31 December is an event of its own, with special fireworks at midnight. It’s the most popular time of the year, so book your hotel and restaurants well in advance.

Frequently asked questions

Your questions, my answers

The questions I get most often by email and DM. Answers with real figures, checked and tested on the ground.

01 What are the main seasons and events at Disneyland Paris?

Two big seasons shape the year: Halloween (from 26 September to 1 November) and Christmas (from 7 November to 6 January). On top of these come special days (the park’s anniversary on 12 April, Star Wars Day on 4 May, 14 July) and sometimes festivals.

02 When is the best time to visit Disneyland Paris?

The quietest periods are January, March and September. If you don’t like crowds, avoid July-August, the French autumn half-term (Toussaint, Halloween season), the Christmas holidays and weekends in May. Midweek, Tuesday, Wednesday and Thursday are the best days, and Saturday is the busiest. On the other hand, the Halloween and Christmas seasons bring extra decorations and shows, at the cost of bigger crowds.

03 What are the dates of this year’s Halloween season at Disneyland Paris?

The Halloween season runs from 26 September to 1 November, at Disneyland Park. The pumpkin decorations are concentrated on Main Street U.S.A. and in Frontierland, with Disney villains to meet and a dedicated parade. On 31 October, both parks extend their opening hours into the evening (exact times on the official calendar).

04 What are the dates of this year’s Christmas season at Disneyland Paris?

The Christmas season runs from 7 November to 6 January, in both parks, with most of the decorations in Disneyland Park. The park is dressed with Christmas trees, lights and artificial snow, with a dedicated parade and plenty of character meet and greets in festive outfits. It’s one of the most popular and busiest times of the year.

05 Are there other temporary seasons during the year?

Yes, several shorter seasons can be added during the year depending on the programming: the Disney Music Festival, themed seasons depending on the year. The dates and themes change from one year to the next. You’ll find the up-to-date programme on the official Disneyland Paris website and in my seasonal articles.
