Hoping to dodge the crowds at Disneyland Paris? Of all the tips I could give you, Extra Magic Time ranks near the top.
Here’s how it works: you get into the park ahead of everybody, about an hour before it officially opens. During that window, a handful of attractions are already running, and most of them have short lines.
This early entry is only for Disney hotel guests and Disneyland Pass Gold holders. Below, I explain who qualifies, how to make the most of it, and whether it’s really worth it.
What is Extra Magic Time?
Extra Magic Time means early access to the parks, before they officially open to the general public. You’ll also see it called an extra hour of magic, early entry, or early park access. It’s all the same perk.
During this reserved slot, you can enjoy certain attractions with very few people around, in a calm atmosphere. Only a small number of guests get in, so you have the park nearly to yourself. It’s the best way to skip the waits at the start of the day.
Who can use it?
Three groups qualify: guests staying at a Disney hotel, guests of Villages Nature Paris (depending on the package chosen when booking), and holders of a valid Disneyland Pass Gold.
If you’re staying at a Disney hotel, you get it every day of your stay. The other partner hotels (outside the resort), however, don’t include access to the slot.
| Your situation | Early entry |
|---|---|
| Disney hotel guest | Yes, for your whole stay |
| Villages Nature Paris guest | Yes |
| Disneyland Pass Gold holder | Yes |
| Pass Bronze or Silver holder | No |
| Partner hotel guest | No |
Who gets Extra Magic Time?
How do you use it?
There’s nothing to reserve. All you have to do is go to the park gates carrying:
- your MagicPass (your digital park ticket in the Disney app, available once you’ve done online check-in), if you’re staying at a Disney hotel,
- or your valid Disneyland Pass Gold.
My advice: get there as soon as the slot opens so you can use every minute of it.
How long does it last, and when?
The slot usually runs for about an hour and starts before the park’s official opening time.
The exact time depends on the season, the day of the week, and how busy it is. That’s why I don’t pin it down here. Instead, check today’s park hours, which I update every day based on what Disneyland Paris announces. I suggest checking it the night before so you can plan your morning.
Which attractions are open?
Disneyland Park and Disney Adventure World (formerly Walt Disney Studios Park) both run some of their attractions during the slot. The list isn’t set in stone and can change from day to day.
Below, park by park, are the attractions that typically open.
At Disneyland Park
Disneyland Park is the main park, home to Sleeping Beauty Castle and the classic attractions. During the slot, these attractions are usually open:
| Ride | Land |
|---|---|
| Main Street Vehicles | Main Street U.S.A. |
| Big Thunder Mountain | Frontierland |
| Phantom Manor | Frontierland |
| Rustler Roundup Shootin’ Gallery | Frontierland |
| Dumbo the Flying Elephant | Fantasyland |
| La Galerie de la Belle au Bois Dormant | Fantasyland |
| La Tanière du Dragon | Fantasyland |
| Peter Pan’s Flight | Fantasyland |
| Buzz Lightyear Laser Blast | Discoveryland |
| Star Wars Hyperspace Mountain | Discoveryland |
This list updates automatically from my attraction pages. Some mornings, other attractions also open partway through the slot, including Le Passage Enchanté d’Aladdin and Les Voyages de Pinocchio.
At Disney Adventure World
Disney Adventure World is the second park, with the Pixar, Marvel, and Frozen areas among others. During the slot, these attractions are usually open:
| Ride | Land |
|---|---|
| The Twilight Zone Tower of Terror | World Premiere Plaza |
| Avengers Assemble: Flight Force | Avengers Campus |
| Spider-Man W.E.B. Adventure | Avengers Campus |
| Cars Quatre Roues Rallye | Worlds of Pixar |
| Crush’s Coaster | Worlds of Pixar |
| Ratatouille : L’Aventure Totalement Toquée de Rémy | Worlds of Pixar |
| Slinky Dog Zigzag Spin | Worlds of Pixar |
| Raiponce Tangled Spin | Adventure Way |
| Frozen Ever After | World of Frozen |
This list updates automatically from my attraction pages. If an attraction is closed for refurbishment, it won’t open during the slot either.
Is it worth it?
Yes, without a doubt. Of all the benefits of staying at a Disney hotel, this is the one I push the hardest.
With an hour in a quiet park, you can ride several big attractions with far shorter waits than later in the day, often half as long. It might even save you from paying for Premier Access that day, which is real money saved.
One thing to keep in mind: the Disney hotels cost more than the partner hotels. It’s a trade-off that depends on your budget. To think it all through, see planning your trip.
Time saved, ride by ride
Every day, I log the posted wait times in both parks. Here’s the typical wait during the slot and in the afternoon, for the attractions where the line really matters. The ones with the biggest gap are at the top of the table.
| Ride | Time saved | Wait during the time slot | Wait in the afternoon |
|---|---|---|---|
| Spider-Man W.E.B. AdventureDisney Adventure World | 40 min | 10 min | 50 min |

My tips
- Show up right when the slot opens so you get the full hour.
- Head first for one or two big rides, like Big Thunder Mountain or Peter Pan’s Flight.
- Leave Crush’s Coaster for later when the slot first opens: even if it’s running, the wait there can swallow nearly all of your early entry.
- Check the time the night before on today’s park hours.
- Save a moment to enjoy the quiet park: a photo on Main Street U.S.A. with no crowds, or breakfast out on a terrace.
- Look up the expected crowd levels to plan your morning.
Dig deeper

- The Disneyland Pass: the annual pass tiers, including Gold.
- Today’s park hours: the exact time of Extra Magic Time.
- Premier Access: the paid option to cut your wait times during the day.
- Crowd levels: to aim for the best days.
Frequently asked questions
01 How long before park opening does Extra Magic Time start?
Usually about an hour before official opening. The exact time depends on the season and the day, so check today’s park hours.
02 Who’s eligible for Extra Magic Time, and does it require a reservation?
You qualify in three situations: if you’re staying at an official Disney hotel (on your arrival day, throughout your stay, and on your departure day), if you’re staying at Villages Nature Paris with a package that includes it, or if you hold a valid Disneyland Pass Gold. The Bronze One, Bronze Max, and Silver tiers don’t include early entry. There’s nothing to reserve: just show up at the park entrance about an hour before official opening with your MagicPass or your Gold pass. Hotel guests should do their online check-in so they can use it from day one.
