Looking to avoid the crowds at Disneyland Paris? Extra Magic Time is one of the best tricks I know.
Here’s how it works: you get into the park before everyone else, about an hour before official opening. During this slot, a selection of rides is already running, with short queues on most of them.
This access is reserved for Disney hotel guests and Disneyland Pass Gold holders. I’ll explain who is eligible, how to make the most of it and whether it’s really worth it.
What is Extra Magic Time?
Extra Magic Time means early access hours in the parks, before they officially open to the general public. You’ll sometimes see it described as an extra hour of magic, early entry or early access. It’s all the same thing.
During this reserved slot, you enjoy some of the rides with very few people around, in a calm atmosphere. Few visitors have access, so you almost have the park to yourself: it’s the best way to avoid queuing at the start of the day.
Who can use it?
Three groups are eligible: visitors staying in a Disney hotel, Villages Nature Paris guests (depending on the package chosen when booking) and holders of a valid Disneyland Pass Gold.
If you’re staying in a Disney hotel, you can use it every day of your stay. However, the other partner hotels (outside the resort) don’t give access to the slot.
| Your situation | Access to the slot |
|---|---|
| Disney hotel guest | Yes, for the whole stay |
| Villages Nature Paris guest | Yes |
| Disneyland Pass Gold holder | Yes |
| Bronze or Silver Pass holder | No |
| Partner hotel guest | No |
Who is eligible for Extra Magic Time?
How to use it
You don’t need to book the slot. Just turn up at the park entrance with:
- your MagicPass (your digital entry ticket in the Disney app, available after online check-in), if you’re staying in a Disney hotel,
- or your valid Disneyland Pass Gold.
My tip: be there as soon as the slot opens to make the most of all the time available.
How long does it last and when?
The slot usually lasts about an hour and starts before the park officially opens.
The exact time varies with the season, the day of the week and crowd levels. So I don’t give a set time here: check today’s opening hours, which I update every day using the information given by Disneyland Paris. I recommend checking it the day before so you can plan your morning properly.
Which rides are open?
Disneyland Park and Disney Adventure World (formerly Walt Disney Studios Park) both open some of their rides during this slot. The list isn’t fixed and can change from one day to the next.
Here are the ones you’ll usually find, park by park.
In Disneyland Park
Disneyland Park is the main park, with Sleeping Beauty Castle and the classic rides. During the slot, the following rides are usually open:
| Ride | Land |
|---|---|
| Main Street Vehicles | Main Street U.S.A. |
| Big Thunder Mountain | Frontierland |
| Phantom Manor | Frontierland |
| Rustler Roundup Shootin’ Gallery | Frontierland |
| Dumbo the Flying Elephant | Fantasyland |
| La Galerie de la Belle au Bois Dormant | Fantasyland |
| La Tanière du Dragon | Fantasyland |
| Peter Pan’s Flight | Fantasyland |
| Buzz Lightyear Laser Blast | Discoveryland |
| Star Wars Hyperspace Mountain | Discoveryland |
This list updates automatically from my guides. Some mornings, other rides also open during the slot, including Le Passage Enchanté d’Aladdin and Les Voyages de Pinocchio.
In Disney Adventure World
Disney Adventure World is the second park, with Pixar, Marvel and Frozen areas among others. During the slot, the following rides are usually open:
| Ride | Land |
|---|---|
| The Twilight Zone Tower of Terror | World Premiere Plaza |
| Avengers Assemble: Flight Force | Avengers Campus |
| Spider-Man W.E.B. Adventure | Avengers Campus |
| Cars Quatre Roues Rallye | Worlds of Pixar |
| Crush’s Coaster | Worlds of Pixar |
| Ratatouille : L’Aventure Totalement Toquée de Rémy | Worlds of Pixar |
| Slinky Dog Zigzag Spin | Worlds of Pixar |
| Raiponce Tangled Spin | Adventure Way |
| Frozen Ever After | World of Frozen |
This list updates automatically from my guides. If a ride is closed for refurbishment, it doesn’t open during the slot either.
Is it worth it?
Yes. Hands down, it’s one of the perks of a Disney hotel stay that I recommend most.
In an hour with the park still calm, you can do several big rides back to back with much shorter queues than later in the day, often half as long. It can even save you paying for Premier Access during the day, so it’s a real saving.
One thing to bear in mind: Disney hotels are more expensive than partner hotels. It’s a trade-off to weigh up against your budget. To work it all out, see my guide to planning your trip.
Time saved, ride by ride
Every day I record the queue times shown in both parks. Here’s the usual queue during the slot and in the afternoon, on the rides where the queue really matters. At the top of the table are the ones with the biggest difference.
| Ride | Time saved | Wait during the slot | Wait in the afternoon |
|---|---|---|---|
| Spider-Man W.E.B. AdventureDisney Adventure World | 40 mins | 10 mins | 50 mins |

My tips
- Arrive as soon as the slot opens to get the full hour.
- Head for one or two big rides first, such as Big Thunder Mountain or Peter Pan’s Flight.
- Avoid Crush’s Coaster at the very start of the slot: even when it’s open, its queue can eat up almost all your time.
- Check the time the day before on my opening hours page.
- Keep some time to enjoy the quiet park: a photo on Main Street U.S.A. without the crowds, breakfast on a terrace.
- Find out about expected crowd levels to plan your morning.

Frequently asked questions
01 How long before opening does the time slot start?
Usually about an hour before official opening. The exact time varies with the season and the day: check today’s opening hours.
02 Who can get Extra Magic Time, and do you need to book?
You’re entitled to it in three cases: if you’re staying at an official Disney hotel (on your arrival day, during your stay and on your departure day), if you’re staying at Villages Nature Paris with a package that includes access, or if you hold a valid Disneyland Pass Gold. Bronze One, Bronze Max and Silver passes don’t include this early access. No booking is needed: just turn up at the park entrance about one hour before official opening, with your MagicPass or your Gold pass. Hotel guests should check in online to make the most of it from the first day.
