Before you head to Disneyland Paris, it’s worth knowing what you can bring. The park rules ban certain items (selfie sticks, outside alcohol, drones, weapons, oversized items) and certain behaviors (smoking outside the designated areas, adults wearing costumes, walking on the lawns, using flash on rides).
Since March 2026, professional-style photo and audio gear has also been restricted. Here are the up-to-date details, so you can pack your bag with no unpleasant surprises at security.
Prohibited items at Disneyland Paris
Several items get turned away at the security checkpoint, for everyone’s safety and comfort. Here are the main ones.
| Item | Status | Details |
|---|---|---|
| Selfie sticks | Banned | A hazard on rides and a nuisance for other guests. |
| Outside alcohol | Banned | Only licensed restaurants serve it. |
| Glass bottles and containers | Banned | Bring a reusable plastic water bottle instead. |
| Drones | Banned | Flying over the parks is prohibited (safety). |
| Weapons and dangerous items | Banned | Knives, sharp objects, anything that looks like a weapon. |
| Bulky items | Banned | Suitcases, large luggage, hard-sided coolers. Bag size is limited (see your bag). |
| Roller skates, bikes, scooters, skateboards | Banned | Personal means of transportation aren’t allowed. |
| Noisemakers | Banned | Vuvuzelas, horns, bullhorns, and megaphones. |
| Professional photo and audio gear | Restricted | Beyond a certain size. See the 2026 rule below. |
Items not allowed into the parks
Suitcases and large bags over a certain size are turned away, and there’s luggage storage near the entrance where you can drop off bulky belongings. I go over the allowed size, the security checks, and luggage storage in what to pack in your bag. Cold food and reusable water bottles, on the other hand, are still allowed (see below).
What camera gear is allowed at Disneyland Paris?
The park rules were updated in March 2026. The update targets professional and semi-professional photo and video equipment. The following are now banned:
- Telescopic poles, tripods, monopods, and extension devices that measure over 20 cm once fully extended
- Professional lenses longer than 135 mm
- Lighting equipment
- Professional microphones
- Any filming equipment used for commercial or journalistic purposes
Are pets allowed?
No. Pets can’t come into the parks. The only exceptions are guide dogs and assistance dogs, which need to stay on a leash or harness, and you’ll have to show proof at the gate. Traveling with an animal? A pet boarding service operates close to the parks.

Prohibited behaviors
The rules also cover certain behaviors, for the safety and comfort of every guest.
Smoking outside the designated areas
Smoking isn’t allowed in the parks, except in the spots set aside for it. I show you where they are in my guide to the smoking areas.
Costumes for adults and anyone over 12
Adults and anyone over 12 can’t wear costumes, except during specific events. Disney Bounding is still allowed all year round. I go over the costume rules in dressing up at Disneyland Paris.
Walking on lawns and flower beds
You’re not allowed to walk on the lawns or flower beds, or to climb on the scenery. These areas are carefully maintained and aren’t meant to be trampled.
Using flash on rides
Flash photography is banned on rides, especially the ones that take place in the dark, and during the nighttime show. It bothers other guests and can create a safety issue.
Carrying a child on your shoulders
At parades and shows, guests are asked to keep kids off their shoulders, since it blocks the view for everyone standing behind. Most of the action happens high up and stays visible from farther away, so moving back a few steps usually does the trick.
Can you bring your own food?
Yes. Cold food you pack yourself (sandwiches, salads, fruit, snacks, a reusable water bottle) is allowed, and security won’t take it away. What gets turned away: alcohol, glass bottles, large hard-sided coolers, and knives. I go over what you can bring in picnicking at Disneyland Paris.

Bag checks and penalties
Bags are searched at the security checkpoint at the park entrances. A banned item can be refused: you’ll then have to leave it in luggage storage or leave it behind. The park doesn’t hold on to these items. If you don’t follow the rules, you can be denied entry, and being removed from the park is also possible. See luggage storage.
The official park rules
These rules are based on the park’s reference document, which is updated regularly. If you have any doubts before your visit, read the Disneyland Paris park rules (in French).

Frequently asked questions
01 Is it OK to pack your own food or a picnic for Disneyland Paris?
Yes. Your own cold food is allowed (sandwiches, snacks, fruit, cake, a reusable water bottle) in a backpack or a small soft cooler bag, and there’s a picnic area between Disney Village and the parking lots. Not allowed: alcohol, glass containers, knives, and large hard coolers. I always tuck a reusable water bottle and some cookies into my bag. It keeps energy dips and counter lines at bay, and it trims the bill.
02 Does Disneyland Paris ban alcohol?
Yes, outside alcohol isn’t allowed in. Inside the park, only licensed restaurants serve drinks with alcohol.
03 Can you bring a selfie stick or a tripod?
No. Selfie sticks, tripods, monopods, and stabilizers longer than 20 cm when extended are banned across the entire Disney area, as are professional lenses over 135 mm. Consumer gear (phones, compact cameras) is still allowed.
04 Can you dress up in costume at Disneyland Paris?
Yes for kids under 12, all year long. From age 12, only on special days, like October 31 for Halloween or Star Wars Day on May 4. Costumes are also allowed at some Disneyland Pass evenings. Disney Bounding is fine all year.
05 Does Disneyland Paris check bags at the entrance?
Yes, every bag is checked at the park entrances: it gets opened and inspected, often along with a walk through a metal detector. The setup feels a lot like an airport. A banned item may not be let in, and you’ll then have to leave it in luggage storage or leave it behind. Get there a little early to cut down the wait.
06 Can your pet come along, and where can your dog stay?
Pets aren’t allowed in the parks or in the Disney hotels. The exceptions are Davy Crockett Ranch, which accepts dogs in some bungalows, and guide and assistance dogs with proof of status. For other pets, a kennel near the parks will look after your animal for the day while you visit.
