You’re planning your day and wondering whether you can pack your own sandwiches instead of buying food on site? The short answer: yes.
Bringing your own food is a great way to enjoy Disneyland Paris without blowing your budget, as long as you know two or three simple rules. First I’ll explain what gets through security, then I’ll take you to my favorite spots for a peaceful meal.
Can you bring a picnic (and your own food) into Disneyland Paris?
Disneyland Paris rules don’t allow a full sit-down picnic inside the parks. But in practice, there’s real leeway: you’re free to bring your own food, as long as it fits in a backpack and doesn’t need any bulky gear.
It all comes down to the security check at the entrance: if you show up with a hard-sided cooler, a table, or folding chairs, security will ask you to take them back.
Allowed
- Sandwiches, wraps, cold salads
- Fruit, cookies, snacks
- Small soft-sided insulated bag (backpack style)
- Reusable water bottle and plastic bottles
- Baby food
Not allowed
- Large hard-sided cooler
- Folding table and chairs
- Any glass container
- Alcohol
- Spreading out a blanket on the grass
One last thing that catches many first-time visitors off guard: the tables and patios at the park restaurants are only for people who bought their meal there. That means you can’t sit there with food you brought. To eat it, find a bench or a low wall, eat while you walk, or eat in an outdoor line.
Where can you have a picnic at Disneyland Paris?
Here’s where my experience really pays off. Most guides only give you a fuzzy answer on this. Below are the precise places I’ve been scouting for years, starting with the official picnic area and moving on to peaceful nooks inside the parks.
The official picnic area (near the parking lot)
If you want a proper, relaxed picnic at a table, this is the spot designed for it. The official picnic area is outside, between Disney Village and the moving walkways that lead to the visitor parking lot, about ten minutes on foot.
It’s a shady area with plenty of wooden tables and benches, free and open to everyone: the only place on the resort that’s actually set up for sitting down to eat.
A real bonus: since this area is before the security checks, you can even bring a cooler here, which you can’t do inside the parks.
In Disneyland Park
In this park, benches get snapped up fast, no matter the time of day. Still, three areas stay quieter than most:
- The low walls by the entrance: just past the security gates, before the Main Street U.S.A. station. Handy when every bench farther in is taken.
- Behind Space Mountain, in Discoveryland: hardly anyone goes back there, so it works well when you just want to stop for a few minutes.
- The back of Frontierland (near the former Critter Corral petting area, toward Woody’s Roundup Village): an often overlooked nook, and my favorite quiet spot. I’ve seen every bench empty there in the middle of July, at 12:30, while the rest of the park was overflowing.
In Disney Adventure World
This park has even fewer benches, so you need to be a little more resourceful. Two fallback options:
- In front of Avengers Assemble: Flight Force, in Avengers Campus: there’s plenty of room here, with low walls you can perch on. Plus, you’ll often see superheroes walking past.
- On World Premiere Plaza (formerly Production Courtyard), in front of the theater for the show Together: A Pixar Musical Adventure: more low walls, but people pass through constantly, so it’s busier.
Other quiet spots (hotels and the Village lake)
For a peaceful break outside the parks, here are two places I like:
- Fantasia Gardens, at the entrance to Disneyland Park (below the Disneyland Hotel): a calm garden, handy before you go in or after your visit. One thing to know: the pink gazebos that used to shelter this spot have been removed. It’s still a great place for a picnic, just less protected if it rains.
- Along the shore of the lake at Disney Village, in particular outside Hotel New York - The Art of Marvel: you’ll find waterside benches where you can sit and unwind.
| Spot | Exactly where | Why |
|---|---|---|
| Official picnic area | Between Disney Village and the moving walkways to the parking lot | Tables, benches, shade, free (the real picnic) |
| Low walls by the entrance | Just inside the security gates, ahead of the Main Street station | Backup when the benches are taken |
| Behind Space Mountain | Discoveryland, at the back of the ride | Little-used corner, quick break |
| Back of Frontierland (former Critter Corral) | Frontierland, toward Woody’s Roundup Village | Often empty, quiet even in summer |
| Avengers Assemble: Flight Force | Avengers Campus (Adventure World) | Low walls + superheroes passing by |
| Together: A Pixar Musical Adventure | World Premiere Plaza (Adventure World) | Low walls, but a busy walkway |
| Fantasia Gardens (entrance) | Below the Disneyland Hotel | Calm garden (gazebos removed, less sheltered) |
| Disney Village lake | In front of Hotel New York | Benches by the water |
My tips for a successful picnic
- Bring a reusable water bottle: free water fountains are spread around the parks (locations in the Disneyland Paris app), so you can refill without buying anything
- Pack some wipes or hand sanitizer, useful for cleaning hands before and after eating
- Go for easy, no-fork meals like sandwiches, wraps, or cold salads
- In summer, keep your food in a soft-sided insulated bag and skip anything that doesn’t hold up in the heat
- Keep things clean: recycling bins are set up just about everywhere

Frequently asked questions
01 Am I allowed to bring food in and picnic at Disneyland Paris?
Yes. Pack your meal in a backpack (sandwiches, snacks, fruit, cakes) and walk right in, since security doesn’t take food away. Setting up a full picnic with a blanket or table isn’t permitted inside the parks, but snacking on a bench, a low wall, or on the move is fine. If you want a real sit-down picnic, there’s an area with tables outside, between the parking lot and the park entrances. Bringing food is also the easiest way to shrink your dining budget. My guide to bringing your own picnic goes through all the rules.
02 Are coolers allowed at Disneyland Paris?
Not a large hard-sided cooler, which gets refused at the security checks at the park entrances. A small soft insulated bag, about the size of a backpack, gets through with no trouble. At the picnic area near the parking lot, which sits before security, you can bring a cooler.
03 If I bring my own food, can I use the restaurant tables?
No. Restaurant tables and patios are only for guests who bought their meal there. For food you brought, sit on a bench or a low wall, or eat as you walk.
04 Is water free at Disneyland Paris?
Yes. Both parks have water fountains, and you can ask for a free glass of tap water at table-service restaurants. Bring a reusable water bottle (plastic, since glass isn’t allowed): it saves you money at every single meal.
