At a glance
The Lion King: Rhythms of the Pride Lands is a musical show of about 30 minutes, created especially for Disneyland Park and performed at the Frontierland Theater.
Directed by Christophe Leclercq, the show deliberately steers away from the Broadway musical and from earlier park versions by featuring human performers, with no attempt to make them look like animals, as a tribute to African traditions.
The story follows the key moments of the animated movie: Simba’s birth, his escape after Mufasa’s death at Scar’s hands, his meeting with Timon and Pumbaa and their "Hakuna Matata" philosophy, his reunion with Nala, and his return to take back his kingdom.
The story is carried entirely by songs performed live, with no dialogue, by singers, dancers, acrobats, and drummers. Some of the performers come from Cirque du Soleil or from The House of Dancing Water show in Macau. The final battle between Simba and Scar is played by two acrobats suspended in midair. Mufasa takes Zazu’s place in some scenes, and Rafiki is played by a male performer.
The staging combines a set of giant African drums (djembes stretching 40 meters wide, the largest stage set ever built at Disneyland Paris), costumes inspired by African customs (boubous, gabrielles that evoke a lion’s mane, braids), aerial acrobatics on seven flying rigs, and an immersive 360° sound system. The soundtrack, rearranged by Steve Sidwell, features nine songs, including Circle of Life, I Just Can’t Wait To Be King, Be Prepared, Hakuna Matata, Shadowland, Can You Feel the Love Tonight, Endless Night, He Lives in You, and Busa / King of Pride Rock, recorded at Angel Recording Studios in London with traditional African instruments.
Originally created for the "The Lion King and Jungle Festival" season, it proved such a hit that it became a permanent show.
The only big musical show at Disneyland Paris that’s entirely sung and performed live, with no dialogue. Live vocals with no prerecorded track, and African drums played live on stage. An international cast that gets the whole theater buzzing at every performance.

History
The Frontierland Theater, formerly called the Chaparral Theater, has long been the go-to venue for big musical productions. It has hosted well-known shows such as Pocahontas, the Show from 1996 to 1999, Tarzan: The Encounter from 2000 to 2012, and The Forest of Enchantment. The Lion King: Rhythms of the Pride Lands opened there on June 30, 2019 for The Lion King and Jungle Festival, in a venue that was completely rebuilt and permanently roofed for the occasion. The show came back in 2020, then became permanent starting October 23, 2021.
The show’s staging was overseen by Disney Live Entertainment. Unlike earlier adaptations, this stage version goes for a tribal visual style and original reorchestrations. The set, with its massive drums and tilting platforms, makes room for aerial acrobatics and gives the animated classic a very contemporary feel.
Theme & world
The show retells Simba’s story on the African savanna, with an immersive staging of the world of The Lion King. Elton John and Tim Rice’s beloved songs from the movie, arranged by Steve Sidwell, drive the performance, backed by African drums played live.
Who it’s made for
Pros and cons
The highlights
- Songs performed live
- Aerial acrobatics
- One-of-a-kind set
- Immersive 360° sound system
The downsides
- Show in English only
- No dialogue between songs
- High demand, with performances filling up fast
My verdict
Hands down, it’s one of my favorite stage productions at the resort. The power of the live voices and the intensity of the drums create a sound that really grabs you. It’s no surprise it’s considered one of the best musical shows in any Disney park worldwide, proof that you shouldn’t skip every show just to focus on the rides.
That said, waiting outside the theater can be tough on crowded, sunny days, which is why so many guests go for the paid Guaranteed Access. I do wish the songs weren’t all in English. My tip: aim for the very first performance of the day to cut down your wait.

Map & getting there
You’ll find the show in Frontierland, inside Disneyland Park, at the Frontierland Theater right by Big Thunder Mountain.
It’s staged in a fully enclosed "black box" theater, which replaced the Chaparral Theater and its partly covered seating area.
The audience sits in tiered seating facing the stage, which features giant African drums that keep rotating and tilting. The theater is one of the few in the world equipped with a 360° sound system.
Your questions about this show
01 Which stage shows are playing at Disneyland Paris in 2026?
In 2026, 7 major stage shows are on the schedule: Mickey’s PhilharMagic, The Lion King: Rhythms of the Pride Lands, Animation Academy, Mickey and the Magician, Minnie’s Dream Factory, Stitch Live!, and TOGETHER: a Pixar Musical Adventure. They play in air-conditioned theaters at Disneyland Park and Disney Adventure World, with several performances a day.
02 Is a reservation required for theater shows?
No. Theater shows cost nothing extra and come with your ticket, using the regular standby line. Guaranteed Access, roughly €15, is an optional add-on: you skip some waiting and are sure to get a seat, even when the show is full.
03 Guaranteed Access for €15: what is it, and which shows are eligible?
It’s a paid service that guarantees you a seat in the theater without waiting in line, for €15 per person (one price for everyone ages 3 and up). You book it in the Disneyland Paris app for the eligible shows: The Lion King: Rhythms of the Pride Lands, Mickey and the Magician, and TOGETHER: a Pixar Musical Adventure. You need a valid park ticket, and it’s in your name. Arrive 15 to 20 minutes early.
04 How can you check the day’s schedule for shows and parades?
In the Disneyland Paris app (under Today in the Park) or on my blog. Showtimes change every day depending on the season and crowds, so I recommend checking that same morning.
05 Are shows and parades included with your ticket?
Yes, all daytime shows, parades, and nighttime shows (Disney Tales of Magic and Disney Cascade of Lights) are included in the ticket price, in the free viewing areas. The only optional extras are the paid premium viewing spot (a reserved spot closer to the stage) and Guaranteed Access to a theater show, both sold in the Disneyland Paris app.
