At a glance

Mickey and the Magician is an indoor show at the Animagique Theater. Mickey lands in a great Magician’s workshop and dreams of becoming a magician too. The Magician gives him a task: tidy up the room before the moon disappears, reminding him that a real magician always keeps his promises.

As he cleans up, Mickey conjures up several Disney characters who each teach him a lesson about magic: the Fairy Godmother (Cinderella) with "Bibbidi-Bobbidi-Boo," Lumiere (Beauty and the Beast) with the banquet scene and a waltz by Belle and the Beast, Rafiki (The Lion King) surrounded by savanna animals to "Circle of Life," the Genie (Aladdin) and his Arabian Nights troupe, then Olaf and Elsa (Frozen) singing "Let It Go."

On stage, live actors share the spotlight with puppets, while singing, dancing, lavish costumes, illusions, digital projections, and special effects all come together. Everything leads up to the big closing number, "Let the Magic Shine," in which Mickey earns his place as a real magician, before every character comes out to take a bow.

What sets it apart

The only show at Disneyland Paris that blends real stage illusions with beloved songs. Vanishing acts and transformations happen live on stage, at a level close to a Broadway production. Mickey visits Cinderella, Beauty and the Beast, The Lion King, Aladdin, and Frozen.

History

The Animagique Theater building first made its name with Animagique, a black-light show that audiences cheered from the park’s opening in 2002 until January 31, 2016. Looking to move toward more ambitious story-driven theater, management commissioned Mickey and the Magician. After a few weeks of previews, the show officially opened on July 2, 2016, and by the end of that same year the IAAPA (International Association of Amusement Parks and Attractions) had named it "best theatrical production."

For this critically praised production, Walt Disney Imagineering brought in British illusionist Paul Kieve, and the designers drew on the worlds of Georges Méliès and Robert-Houdin to give the show an "old-school" style of magic. That partnership made it possible to build optical illusions and stage trickery right into the story. The set design, built for lightning-fast scene changes, relies on video projections subtly mapped onto the scenery, creating the feel of a classic nineteenth-century theater.

Accessibility is part of this show’s legacy too. In 2018, it became the first show at Disneyland Paris to be performed in French Sign Language, the result of two years of teamwork between the entertainment, accessibility, and disability departments. And since February 2023, the signer is no longer stuck at the edge of the stage translating: they play a real role in the story and interact directly with the characters.

My verdict

Hands down, this is my favorite of all the theater productions at the resort, a complete show that looks stunning. It clearly stands out as one of the best illusion shows in any Disney park in the world. The execution and staging are so strong that it’s well worth setting aside time for it during your day.

The flip side of that quality is huge popularity. It’s common to see the line fill up well before the posted showtime, especially on busy days. My tip: skip the front row and deliberately sit a few rows back. You’ll get a much better view of the full-cast choreography and of how the illusions work.

Your questions about this show

01 Which stage shows are playing at Disneyland Paris in 2026?

In 2026, 7 major stage shows are on the schedule: Mickey’s PhilharMagic, The Lion King: Rhythms of the Pride Lands, Animation Academy, Mickey and the Magician, Minnie’s Dream Factory, Stitch Live!, and TOGETHER: a Pixar Musical Adventure. They play in air-conditioned theaters at Disneyland Park and Disney Adventure World, with several performances a day.

02 Is a reservation required for theater shows?

No. Theater shows cost nothing extra and come with your ticket, using the regular standby line. Guaranteed Access, roughly €15, is an optional add-on: you skip some waiting and are sure to get a seat, even when the show is full.

03 Guaranteed Access for €15: what is it, and which shows are eligible?

It’s a paid service that guarantees you a seat in the theater without waiting in line, for €15 per person (one price for everyone ages 3 and up). You book it in the Disneyland Paris app for the eligible shows: The Lion King: Rhythms of the Pride Lands, Mickey and the Magician, and TOGETHER: a Pixar Musical Adventure. You need a valid park ticket, and it’s in your name. Arrive 15 to 20 minutes early.

04 How can you check the day’s schedule for shows and parades?

In the Disneyland Paris app (under Today in the Park) or on my blog. Showtimes change every day depending on the season and crowds, so I recommend checking that same morning.

05 Are shows and parades included with your ticket?

Yes, all daytime shows, parades, and nighttime shows (Disney Tales of Magic and Disney Cascade of Lights) are included in the ticket price, in the free viewing areas. The only optional extras are the paid premium viewing spot (a reserved spot closer to the stage) and Guaranteed Access to a theater show, both sold in the Disneyland Paris app.
