At a glance

La Cantina is the main restaurant at Disney’s Hotel Santa Fe, a hotel with a New Mexico theme that has drawn on the Pixar movie Cars since 2012. The concept recalls the colorful markets of the American Southwest along legendary Route 66.

The decor is colorful and immersive: kachinas, hats, cacti, Mexican architectural touches, nods to Cars, and winks at American culture. Some buffet counters are set up in the back of a truck parked next to a gas pump, carrying the Route 66 and Cars spirit even further.

It works as an all-you-can-eat buffet of Tex-Mex and international food. The restaurant welcomes hotel guests as well as outside visitors, has a vegetarian corner and a special allergy menu, and adds a few seasonal dishes during Halloween, Christmas, and other celebrations.

What sets it apart

A Tex-Mex pit stop on Route 66. Disney Hotel Santa Fe’s big all-you-can-eat buffet dives into the car-filled world of Pixar’s Cars movies. The counters look like desert gas stations in the American Southwest, with large murals of Lightning McQueen. You’ll find a wide spread of build-your-own fajitas, tacos, and colorful desserts for everyone.

The most popular tables go fast, often several weeks ahead: I recommend booking as soon as your dates are set. Also look at the menu before you go, so you’ll know right away whether this restaurant appeals to you and won’t waste time once you’re there.

History

La Cantina opened on April 12, 1992, inside Disney’s Hotel Santa Fe. It was modeled on a covered New Mexico craft market, with the look of a desert village.

In the 2010s, a renovation changed its theme. Route 66 touches and set pieces from the Pixar animated movie Cars were added, refreshing the space without rebuilding the outer walls.

My verdict

Julie
Julie ★★★★☆ 200+ visits since 2023

La Cantina is the all-you-can-eat buffet at Disney’s Hotel Santa Fe, with a Route 66 and New Mexico theme. What sets it apart is the colorful, immersive decor and prices that rank among the most affordable of the hotel buffets.

I’ve eaten here with my family, and I liked that everyone could fill their own tapas and small plates. Plan on about €35 per adult and €20 per child at this restaurant, open since 1992, with a good range of Tex-Mex food and a cheerful Route 66 feel. My only gripes: the room is often loud, the center area gets a lot of foot traffic, and the dessert choice is a bit limited. It’s still good value for a hotel buffet.

I recommend it for families looking for an affordable, colorful buffet. It’s less of a fit if you can’t stand noise or want lots of desserts.

Your questions about this restaurant

01 How can I reserve a table at one of the Disneyland Paris restaurants?

There are four ways to book. The easiest is still the official Disneyland Paris app ("Dining" section), signed in to your Disney account. You can also call the reservation line at +33 1 60 30 40 50, use the official website through the Dining menu, or book in person at City Hall, Studio Services, or your Disney hotel’s concierge desk. Before you decide, I suggest you download my free file by email, which gathers every Disneyland Paris restaurant menu in one place. It makes choosing so much easier.

02 How early can I make a Disneyland Paris restaurant reservation?

The booking window depends on where you’re staying. If you’re at a Disney hotel, you can book up to 1 year ahead, as soon as your stay is confirmed. That’s a real advantage for very popular restaurants like Auberge de Cendrillon or the character buffets. If you’re coming for the day without a Disney hotel, you can book up to 2 months (60 days) ahead. You can reserve through the Disneyland Paris app, on the official website, or by phone at +33 1 60 30 40 50. My advice: book the moment the window opens for character dining and for weekend evenings or French school vacation evenings, or the time slots go fast.

03 Is it still possible to get a table the same day with no reservation?

Yes, it’s possible but not guaranteed. Some restaurants run a "walk-in line" depending on the seats that open up during the day. Go to the restaurant’s host stand and ask whether they have room. The app also shows time slots as they free up in real time (last-minute cancellations), and I check it often when I’m after a last-minute table. Otherwise, fall back on the quick-service counters and snack stands, which never require a reservation. Tip: eating lunch at off-peak times (before 12:00 or after 14:00) greatly improves your chances of getting a table without a reservation.

04 How do you cancel a Disney restaurant reservation?

Canceling is easy in the official Disneyland Paris app. Go to "Account > My dining reservations", pick the reservation you want, and confirm the cancellation. You can also cancel by phone at +33 1 60 30 40 50. Cancel as soon as you know you won’t make it: it frees up a spot for other guests and it’s a nice thing to do. Important: you can’t change the time or the number of people in your party directly in the app. If you need a change, you have two options: cancel and make a new reservation (if time slots are still open), or call the reservation line at +33 1 60 30 40 50.

05 When I book, can I request a high chair or a birthday cake, or say I’m using a meal plan?

Yes. When you book (app, phone, or website), you’ll find a "Special Request" field where you can make several requests. You can ask for a high chair for your baby, a birthday cake (at an extra charge), mention a food intolerance or allergy, or let them know you want to use your half-board meal plan. For the birthday cake, I suggest asking right when you book to be sure one is available. If you didn’t, you can also ask when you arrive at the restaurant, and they’ll try to work something out depending on what they have that day.
