La Cantina: Lightning McQueen’s Mexican buffet

The very colourful family buffet at Hotel Santa Fe, a Disneyland Paris restaurant where you build your own fajitas and pick from Tex-Mex classics and a range of desserts, surrounded by petrol pumps and murals from the Route 66 of the Cars films.

At a glance

La Cantina is the main restaurant at Disney’s Hotel Santa Fe, a hotel themed on New Mexico and, since 2012, on the Pixar film Cars. The idea recalls the colourful markets of the American Southwest along the legendary Route 66.

The decor is colourful and immersive: kachinas, hats, cacti, Mexican architectural touches, references to the film Cars and nods to American culture. Some of the buffet counters are set up in the back of a lorry parked next to a petrol pump, carrying on the Route 66 and Cars spirit.

It’s an all-you-can-eat buffet of Tex-Mex and international food. The restaurant welcomes hotel guests and outside visitors alike and has a vegetarian corner and a special allergy menu. It also adds a few seasonal dishes for Halloween, Christmas and other celebrations.

What makes it stand out

A Tex-Mex stop on Route 66. The big all-you-can-eat buffet at Disney Hotel Santa Fe draws you into the motor world of the Pixar Cars films. The counters look like desert petrol stations from the American Southwest, with huge murals of Lightning McQueen. You’ll find plenty of build-your-own fajitas, tacos and colourful desserts for everyone.

The most popular tables go fast, often several weeks ahead: I recommend booking as soon as your dates are set. Have a look at the menu before you go too, you’ll know straight away whether this restaurant suits you and you won’t waste time on the spot.

History

Opened on 12 April 1992 at Disney’s Hotel Santa Fe, La Cantina was inspired by a covered craft market in New Mexico, with the look of a desert village.

In the 2010s, the restaurant was renovated and its theme changed. Elements of Route 66 and scenery from the Pixar animated film Cars were added, refreshing the space without rebuilding the outer walls.

My verdict

Julie
Julie ★★★★☆ 200+ visits since 2023

La Cantina is the all-you-can-eat buffet at Disney’s Hotel Santa Fe, themed on Route 66 and New Mexico. Its strengths are the colourful, immersive decor and prices that are among the most affordable of the hotel buffets.

I’ve eaten there with my family and I liked being able to fill my own tapas and small plates. Expect to pay around €35 per adult and €20 per child at this restaurant, open since 1992, with varied Tex-Mex food and a warm Route 66 atmosphere. My reservations: the dining room is often noisy, the central area is very busy and the dessert choice is a little limited. It’s still good value for a hotel buffet.

I’d recommend it for families looking for an affordable, colourful buffet. Less suited if you want to avoid noise or are after lots of desserts.

Your questions about this restaurant

01 How do you book a table at a Disneyland Paris restaurant?

You have four ways to book. The easiest is the official Disneyland Paris app ("Dining" section), from your Disney account. You can also call the booking line on +33 (0)1 60 30 40 50, use the official website via the Dining menu or book on site at City Hall, Studio Services or your Disney hotel’s concierge desk. Before you choose, I suggest downloading my free file by email, which brings together all the menus of the Disneyland Paris restaurants. It really helps you make up your mind.

02 How far in advance can you book a restaurant at Disneyland Paris?

It depends on how you’re visiting. If you’re staying in a Disney hotel, you can book up to 1 year ahead, as soon as your stay is confirmed: a real advantage for the most popular restaurants like the Auberge de Cendrillon or the character buffets. If you’re coming for the day, without a Disney hotel, you can book up to 2 months (60 days) ahead. You can book in the Disneyland Paris app, on the official website or by phone on +33 (0)1 60 30 40 50. My advice: book as soon as the window opens for character restaurants and for evenings at weekends or during French school holidays, otherwise the slots disappear fast.

03 Can you still get a table on the day without booking?

Yes, it’s possible but not guaranteed. Some restaurants run a "walk-in queue" depending on the tables freed up during the day. Go to the restaurant’s reception desk and ask if there’s any room left. The mobile app also shows slots that open up in real time (last-minute cancellations), and I check it regularly when I’m after a last-minute table. Otherwise, fall back on the quick-service counters and snack stands, which never need a booking. Tip: eating lunch at an off-peak time (before 12:00 or after 14:00) greatly improves your chances of finding a table without booking.

04 How do I cancel a Disneyland Paris restaurant booking?

You can cancel easily in the official Disneyland Paris mobile app. Go to "Account > My table reservations", select the booking and confirm the cancellation. You can also cancel by phone on +33 (0)1 60 30 40 50. Remember to cancel as soon as you know you won’t make it: it frees up a table for other visitors and is a nice thing to do. Important: you can’t change the time or the number of diners directly in the app. If you need to change it, you have two options: cancel and make a new booking (if slots are still available), or call the reservations centre on +33 (0)1 60 30 40 50.

05 Can you ask for a high chair or a birthday cake, or mention a meal plan, when booking?

Yes, when you book (app, phone or website), there’s a "Special request" field where you can make several requests. You can mention a high chair for a baby, a birthday cake (at an extra cost) or a food intolerance or allergy. You can also say that you want to use your half-board plan. For the birthday cake, I’d advise mentioning it as soon as you book to be sure one is available. If you didn’t, you can also ask directly when you arrive at the restaurant, and they’ll try to sort something out depending on what they have in stock that day.
