Celebrating a birthday at Disneyland Paris: free button, perks, and cake

Planning to celebrate someone’s birthday at Disneyland Paris during your visit? Here’s what’s free, what you pay for, and the habit to get into the moment you book your hotel.

Celebrating a birthday at Disneyland Paris comes down to two things. First, a few free touches: a birthday button with your first name on it, a sticker, and a phone call from Mickey. Then, options you pay for: a cake served at a restaurant and hotel extras.

The single most useful thing you can do is free: note the birthday when you reserve your Disney hotel. It’s what triggers the small surprises waiting in your room.

Free birthday perks

The birthday button

The birthday button is free. Just ask for it, on the day or beforehand, at City Hall (Disneyland Park), at Studio Services (the guest services desk at Disney Adventure World), or at your Disney hotel’s front desk.

It’s a pin-on button you can personalize with your first name. Cast members and other guests spot it and wish you a happy birthday all day long. Anyone can wear one, grown-ups included.

The birthday sticker

The sticker does the same job as the button: it lets everyone know it’s your birthday so the cast members can send their wishes. It’s free and you ask for it in the same places. Depending on stock, you may be offered one instead of the button.

A phone call from Mickey

Ask at City Hall and Mickey will call to wish the birthday boy or girl a happy birthday. It’s free and available in several languages. A sweet moment for kids. Ask early, since it depends on availability that day.

Little touches at Disney hotels

Booked a Disney hotel and flagged the birthday at the time of booking? Then the staff may set out a few treats in your room: chocolate coins, a small plush, and now and then one more little gesture.

These touches are up to the hotel and aren’t guaranteed. If you booked online or through a flash sale site, call the hotel ahead of time to let them know.

Options you pay for

Birthday cake at a restaurant: prices and sizes

Expect to pay about €25 for a small cake (serves about 2) and about €45 for a large one (serves about 6). You order it as dessert at Disney buffet and table-service restaurants. It comes out with candles, and the cast members come over to sing.

Order it ahead of time, when you book your vacation, through the reservations line, or when you reserve your table: quantities are limited.

Hotel add-ons and packages

Beyond the free touches, the hotels sell paid extras to personalize your stay, such as flowers in the room or a plush toy waiting on the bed. What’s offered depends on the hotel, and you book it by phone with a quote, either when you reserve or later. It’s worth comparing what each one offers on the Disney hotels pages.

My tips

  • Let the Disney hotel know about the birthday from the moment you reserve (it’s the key to getting those in-room surprises).
  • Book or order the cake in advance: quantities are limited.
  • Keep proof of date of birth handy: it’s sometimes requested for the button.
  • If you skip the Disney cake, bring a candle and a wrapped gift.
  • Pair the birthday with a character meet and greet and take the photo home with you.

Frequently asked questions

01 Is the birthday button free?

Yes. The birthday button is free and can be personalized with your first name. So is the sticker. Both are available to every age, adults included.

02 Where do you pick up the birthday button?

All you have to do is ask, at City Hall (Disneyland Park), Studio Services (guest services at Disney Adventure World), or the concierge desk of your Disney hotel. When the parks run out of buttons, hotel concierges tend to be the surest bet.

03 Is admission free on your birthday at Disneyland Paris?

No, Disneyland Paris doesn’t offer free admission on your birthday. That rumor applies to other parks around the world. The birthday badge, the sticker, and the phone call from Mickey are free, though, and you can ask for them at City Hall.

04 How much is the birthday cake?

Expect about €25 for a small cake (serves about 2) and about €45 for a large one (serves about 6), at a buffet or table-service restaurant. Order it ahead of time, since quantities are limited.

05 Will Mickey really call on your birthday?

Yes, if you ask at City Hall. The call is free and offered in several languages, depending on what’s available that day.

06 Is admission free for kids under 3?

Yes, kids under 3 get into both parks free, based on their age on the day of the visit, with no ticket or formalities needed. Have something that proves their age in case you’re asked. Ages 3 to 11 inclusive pay the child price, and from 12 on, it’s the adult price.
