Big orange, white, and pink globe lanterns glowing at dusk on a building front in Disney Village

These are the Disneyland Paris restaurants that have closed after being part of so many people’s stays. A few are gone forever, while others got a new name or merged into a different restaurant. I go through the best known, one area at a time: what each one was, its closing date, and what took over.

A quick note first: a "lost" restaurant can mean two things. Either the place closed and nothing reopened in its spot. Or the building is still there, but the name and theme changed. I point out which one every time.

Lost restaurants at Disney Village

Disney Village went through a big wave of change in the early 2020s. Several long-standing spots closed to make room for new concepts. For details on the restaurants still open, see where to eat at Disney Village.

Planet Hollywood

This was the big movie and celebrity-themed restaurant at the station end of the Village entrance. Its giant globe was often the first thing guests saw when they arrived by train. Opened in 1996, it closed on January 7, 2023. The building then became part of the Village redevelopment project.

On closing day, January 7, 2023, I was there myself, and it moved me. As a keepsake, I held on to the special glass they made for that day, printed with the date.

Of all the places that have disappeared in recent years, it’s probably the landmark first-time visitors knew best.

King Ludwig’s Castle

Inspired by Bavaria and housed in a castle-like building on the lakefront, this was the Village’s one German restaurant. It opened in 2003 and shut its doors on January 8, 2023. The Royal Pub, an English pub, took over the building starting in February 2023.

Café Mickey

Outside the hotels, Café Mickey ranked among the resort’s top places for a meal with characters. Disney characters made the rounds from table to table, so families with young kids loved it. It opened in the early 2000s beside Lake Disney and stopped offering character dining in 2020.

Since then, the building has been redone and now houses Brasserie Rosalie, a French brasserie that opened on December 8, 2023. Café Mickey’s closing kicked off the Village’s major makeover.

Lost restaurants at Disneyland Park

The first park has lost a few restaurants over the decades. Some closed for good, others changed their name and theme while keeping the same building.

Buzz Lightyear’s Pizza Planet Restaurant

In Discoveryland, Pizza Planet served up a Toy Story theme. Families liked it for the unlimited pizza and drinks at a gentle price, and for its well-known "Pizza Burger." It opened in 1996 and closed permanently in August 2016.

Nothing ever took the place of the building, which was meant to be temporary from the start. These days, Café Hyperion is the go-to spot for a meal in Discoveryland.

Café des Visionnaires

Here’s a restaurant few guests ever knew. Café des Visionnaires, in Discoveryland, served unusual food made at the counter (salads, paella, couscous in cast-iron pans), in a futuristic setting paying tribute to Jules Verne. Opened on April 12, 1992, it closed on September 15, 1995, for lack of visitors.

The space then became an arcade (the Arcade des Visionnaires), before being redesigned in 2002.

To be honest: I wasn’t born yet when Café des Visionnaires closed, in 1995. I’m not going by my own memories here, but by what the very first fans say about it.

Fantasia Gelati

This original ice cream shop, opened on April 12, 1992, in the Italian corner of Fantasyland, served soft-serve ice cream inspired by the movie Fantasia. It was the go-to ice cream stop in the area. It closed in late 2022.

The building was absorbed by the expansion of Pizzeria Bella Notte next door, which added a Luca-themed dining room there.

Aux Épices Enchantées

Located in the African part of Adventureland, this opening-day restaurant mixed flavors from Africa, Asia, and the Caribbean, with African artifacts as decor. It opened in 1992, and both its name and its concept were dropped in May 1995.

The doors never actually shut for good: the building stayed and was re-themed to The Lion King. It now operates as Hakuna Matata restaurant.

Blue Lagoon Restaurant

Blue Lagoon was a one-of-a-kind spot: you ate by the water, right inside the Pirates of the Caribbean ride, in the setting of a Caribbean beach at night (fireflies, crickets). Opened in 1992, it lost its name and theme in 2017.

Here too, it’s a renaming more than a closure: the place still exists as Captain Jack’s - Restaurant des Pirates, re-themed around Jack Sparrow when the ride reopened on July 24, 2017.

Lost restaurants at the second park

The second park, long called Walt Disney Studios Park, has gone through two big transformations: the creation of Avengers Campus and the redesign of Studio 1. Several restaurants disappeared or changed along the way.

Restaurant en Coulisse

Sitting at the front of the park in Studio 1, Restaurant en Coulisse was its large counter-service spot. The idea was a meal break on a movie set, it could seat a huge crowd, and for many guests it was the first place to eat they passed. It opened along with the park in 2002 and closed on April 24, 2024, when the whole of Studio 1 did.

The building was transformed: it’s now home to The Hollywood Gardens Restaurant, which opened on May 15, 2025, in the redesigned Studio 1, with a movie premiere garden party theme.

Hep Cat Corner

Tucked into Studio 1, this small counter sold ice cream, pastries, and drinks to a jazzy soundtrack. It joined the Studio 1 facade in 2013 and was a handy place for a quick stop near the entrance. When Studio 1 closed in April 2024, it went too, and it was not part of the May 2025 reopening.

Restaurant des Stars

This was the only all-you-can-eat buffet restaurant in the second park, with about 300 seats and Hollywood Art Deco decor lined with portraits of stars. Known for its good value and wide choice of desserts, it closed on January 6, 2020.

The building became part of PYM Kitchen, the Avengers Campus all-you-can-eat buffet that opened on July 20, 2022.

Disney Blockbuster Café

This counter-service spot themed around Disney blockbusters had dining rooms decorated by franchise (Pirates of the Caribbean, High School Musical, Iron Man). It was the main place to eat in the Backlot area. Opened in 2009, it closed in September 2019 to make way for Avengers Campus.

Today, Stark Factory occupies the spot. This Avengers Campus restaurant welcomed its first guests on July 20, 2022.

Café des Cascadeurs

Café des Cascadeurs was a real 1950s American diner (an actual diner shipped over from New Jersey and rebuilt), serving burgers. It was one of the oldest restaurant buildings in any Disney park, often mentioned for that reason. Business under that name ended in 2020.

The original building was kept and re-themed: it’s now Super Diner in Avengers Campus, which opened on July 20, 2022.

Lost restaurants at the Disney hotels

Hotel renovations wiped out several memorable restaurants, especially at the Disneyland Hotel, which was completely reimagined. For hotel restaurants that are still open, see eating at the Disney hotels.

Inventions

Inventions was the character buffet at the Disneyland Hotel, one of the main places to meet Disney characters during a meal. Its decor drew on the Victorian era (steam machines, gears, copper). Service stopped when the hotel closed for renovation, and it never reopened under that name.

Royal Banquet now occupies that space. It’s a character buffet with a royal theme, and it opened on January 25, 2024.

California Grill

The Disneyland Hotel’s top-end restaurant served Californian food, with a menu that changed with the seasons and a kitchen you could see from your table. It was there from 1992 until the hotel closed for its renovation (2020-2021).

In its place today is La Table de Lumière, a French fine dining restaurant whose decor draws on Beauty and the Beast. It opened in January 2024.

Café Fantasia

Café Fantasia, the Disneyland Hotel’s piano bar themed on Fantasia, was a spot to relax with a drink. It had been there since 1992 and closed with the rest of the hotel for the renovation (2020-2021). Since January 2024, the bar in that space goes by Fleur de Lys.

Parkside Diner

Disney’s Hotel New York had Parkside Diner, a buffet styled like a retro American diner and inspired by New York between the 1930s and the 1950s. It closed in 2019, when the hotel shut to be turned into The Art of Marvel.

Today the hotel’s family-friendly restaurant is Downtown Restaurant, open since June 2021 with the hotel’s new Marvel look.

Frequently asked questions

01 Does Disneyland Paris still have Café Mickey?

No. Café Mickey, the character restaurant on the shore of Lake Disney, served its last meals in 2020. Its building now houses Brasserie Rosalie, a French brasserie with full service from breakfast to dinner, which opened on December 8, 2023. Plenty of guides still use the old name, which is why people often get confused.

02 Did the Disneyland Pizza Planet close?

Yes. Buzz Lightyear’s Pizza Planet Restaurant in Discoveryland shut its doors permanently in 2016, and nothing ever took over the building. These days, Café Hyperion is the main place to grab a meal in Discoveryland.

03 Why have so many restaurants closed at Disneyland Paris?

The closures mainly come down to three waves: the shutdown during the 2020 health crisis, the major hotel renovations (Disneyland Hotel, Hotel New York), and the transformation of the second park with Avengers Campus, followed by the redevelopment of Studio 1. The overhaul of Disney Village has also wiped out several restaurants.

04 Is there still a character buffet at Disneyland Paris?

Yes. Café Mickey and Inventions are gone, but the Disneyland Hotel now runs a character buffet, Royal Banquet, which opened in January 2024. Curious about the other hotel restaurants? My article on Disney hotel dining covers them.
