A character helium balloon is one of the most memorable souvenirs from Disneyland Paris, especially for kids. Expect to pay €10, which covers the small plastic weight that anchors it so it won’t drift off. With a little care, it lasts several days, sometimes several weeks, and you can even refill it once it deflates.
Which balloons are available, and how much do they cost?
You’ll find several characters: Mickey, Minnie, The Lion King, and other Disney favorites. The lineup changes often, so I suggest seeing what’s on offer the day you visit instead of setting your heart on one character ahead of time.
As for price, plan on €10 per balloon. That covers the balloon plus the small plastic weight that holds it down, so you don’t need to buy anything extra to keep it in place.
How long does a balloon last?
These balloons are made of metallic film (mylar/foil, a thin airtight membrane, not latex) and filled with helium. The result: they stay up for several days and sometimes several weeks if you take care of them. That’s what sets them apart from regular balloons, which sag after a few hours.
Another plus: once it goes flat, the balloon can be refilled. You can have it reinflated at a party supply store, or do it at home with a small helium tank. Handy for reusing it at a birthday or a party.
My tips for buying it and keeping it
- When to buy it ideally late in the day, once you’re done with rides (see my tip above).
- Getting it home driving home, it’s easy. If you’re taking a train or flying, look up the regulations on items inflated with helium. Another option: get it not inflated and have it filled after you’re home.
- Taking care of it keep it away from extreme temperatures (direct sun in the car, freezing cold) and from anything sharp. Refill it when it starts to sag.
- Tying it securely attach it with its string and watch out for wind. Balloons fly away fast, especially when tied to a stroller.
Where can you buy a balloon at Disneyland Paris?
You’ll find the character helium balloons in several spots around Disneyland Park: from street vendors (carts) on Main Street U.S.A. and near the entrance, as well as in some shops. The easiest approach is to spot them during the day and buy one as you’re leaving, since they’re bulky.
Don’t mix it up with the PanoraMagique, the big tethered balloon at Disney Village that lifts guests high into the air. That’s a paid activity with no connection to the souvenir balloon.
