The helium balloon featuring characters is one of the most memorable souvenirs of Disneyland Paris, especially for children. Expect to pay €10, a price that includes the small plastic weight that holds it down so it doesn’t float away. Looked after well, it lasts several days, sometimes several weeks, and it can even be refilled once it has deflated.
Which balloons, and how much?
You’ll find several characters: Mickey, Minnie, The Lion King and other Disney favourites. The selection changes regularly, so I’d suggest looking at what’s on offer on the day of your visit rather than setting your heart on a particular character in advance.
As for price, expect to pay €10 per balloon. This includes the balloon and the small plastic weight that keeps it grounded: there’s no need to buy anything else to keep it in place.
How long does a balloon last?
These balloons are made of metallic film (mylar/foil, a thin airtight membrane, not latex) and filled with helium. As a result, they last several days and sometimes several weeks if you look after them. That’s what sets them apart from ordinary balloons, which drop after a few hours.
The good news: once deflated, the balloon can be refilled. You can have it refilled in a specialist shop, or at home with a small helium canister. Handy for reusing it at a birthday or a party.
My tips for buying and keeping it
- When to buy it ideally at the end of the day, when you’ve finished with the rides (see my tip above).
- Getting it home by car, no problem. By train or plane, check the rules on helium-filled items. You can also buy it uninflated and fill it once you’re home.
- Looking after it avoid extreme temperatures (full sun in the car, frost) and keep it away from sharp objects. Refill it when it starts to deflate.
- Holding on to it tie it on with its string and watch out for the wind. Balloons fly off quickly, especially when tied to a pushchair.
Where to buy a balloon at Disneyland Paris
You’ll find helium balloons featuring characters in several places in Disneyland Park: from the street vendors (carts) on Main Street U.S.A. and near the entrance, as well as in some shops. The easiest approach is to spot them during the day and buy one at the end of your visit, as they’re bulky.
Don’t confuse them with PanoraMagique, the big tethered balloon at Disney Village that lifts visitors up high: it’s a paid activity with nothing to do with the souvenir balloon.
