At a glance

Disney Tales of Magic is the nighttime show that closes Disneyland Park, performed every night at closing time.

Created by Tim Lutkin and Disney Live Entertainment’s Paris teams, it’s exclusive to the Paris park and is the first nighttime show at Disneyland Paris to work not only Sleeping Beauty Castle into its story, but also the facades of Main Street U.S.A.

Three story arcs give the show its shape: the magic found in friendship, in loving someone, and in belonging to a family, each one unfolding as an emotional journey through Disney and Pixar stories.

A prologue celebrates the visual magic Walt Disney brought to the screen through Pinocchio, Cinderella, and Mary Poppins, followed by a series of scenes devoted to Inside Out, Moana, Beauty and the Beast, Mulan, The Hunchback of Notre Dame, Lilo & Stitch, Toy Story, WALL-E, Coco, The Lion King, and Encanto, among others. The finale brings together many iconic characters to the song "Live in Magic." The show also holds the record for the most Disney and Pixar characters featured in a nighttime show, ahead of Wondrous Journeys at the Disneyland Resort.

On the technical side, the show mixes projection mapping, fountains and water jets, lasers, pyrotechnics, and LEDs set into the turrets, and its video runs at twice the frame rate of the earlier shows (50 frames per second). Animating the exclusive Blue Fairy and Fairy Godmother sequences required over 300 drawings done by hand, then scanned and colored on a computer.

The soundtrack is built on rearrangements of more than 20 iconic Disney and Pixar pieces and on the original song "Live in Magic," sung in French and English by Noémie Legrand, Tony Ferrari, and Lucky West, backed by a 100-piece orchestra recorded at Air Studios in London.

A detail for insiders: the DJ hosting the Aliens’ party in the Toy Story sequence, nicknamed "DJ Fab" by the show’s artistic director, pays tribute to Adam Fabulous, a Disney parks fan who passed away shortly before the show was created.

What sets it apart

The nighttime show that ends every evening at Disneyland Park. A building orchestral score that moves from legendary themes to newer Disney songs with rare intensity, powerful enough to move even longtime regulars.

History

Disneyland Park’s castle has hosted a series of nighttime shows over the years. The first show with video mapping on the castle, Disney Dreams!, launched on April 1, 2012, for the park’s 20th anniversary and ran until March 25, 2017. Disney Illuminations replaced it from March 26, 2017, to April 11, 2023, leaving a lasting impression with projections across the castle’s many surfaces. A second version of Disney Dreams! then took over from April 12, 2023, to May 30, 2024, and Disney Illuminations came back for a short run, before Disney Tales of Magic became the official show starting January 10, 2025.

As a tribute to its predecessor, the scene from The Hunchback of Notre Dame (Quasimodo climbing the castle to Out There) deliberately brings back an iconic piece of staging from Disney Dreams!.

The drones, part of the show when it debuted in early 2025, were removed in April 2026. The show is still impressive thanks to its six other built-in technologies: video mapping, lasers, water jets, LEDs on the turrets, pyrotechnics, and ambient lighting on Main Street.

My verdict

Probably the most emotionally intense moment of a day at Disneyland Paris. Using Main Street U.S.A. as a narrative extension of the castle is spectacular and earns the show its reputation: it’s often named one of the best nighttime shows in Disney parks worldwide. The projections and pyrotechnics are remarkably precise.

One word of caution, though: the crowds are very dense, and you need to arrive at least 60 minutes early to get a clear view, especially in peak season. Personally, I miss the drones, removed in April 2026, and some sequences feel thinner without them. My real tip: pick your visual priority (the details on the castle or being surrounded by the action on the street) and accept that you can’t see everything perfectly from a single spot.

Map & getting there

Most of the show plays out in Disneyland Park on Central Plaza, right below Sleeping Beauty Castle, and, a first for Disneyland Paris, it also spreads onto the building fronts along Main Street U.S.A.

You can watch from several areas. Central Plaza is where the castle, fountains, and pyrotechnics look their best. Main Street U.S.A. wraps you in the projections on the building fronts, and the sweet spot is between Walt’s and Market House Deli for a 360° view.

The first row in the middle of Central Plaza is sold separately as a paid premium viewing area.

Guests with disabilities have a reserved area in front of the castle, close to the Frontierland teepee path.

Your questions about this show

01 What is the nighttime show at Disneyland Park?

Right now it’s Disney Tales of Magic, which plays out on Sleeping Beauty Castle and along Main Street U.S.A. The show lasts roughly 20 minutes and starts when the park closes. My dedicated article walks through every place you can watch from.

02 Paid premium viewing for the nighttime shows: what is it?

A reserved section nearer the show, sold through the Disneyland Paris app. Pricing varies by show and by date. Disney asks you to arrive 10 to 30 minutes ahead of showtime.

03 How far ahead should you stake out a spot for a parade or show?

Plan on 30 to 45 minutes when it’s quiet, and as much as 1 hour to 1 hour 30 minutes for the best spots when it’s busy. You’ll find details for each spot in my dedicated articles. If you buy paid access, just show up 10 to 30 minutes ahead.

04 Is it possible to watch both fireworks shows in one evening?

No, the two shows often happen at the same time (or slightly staggered), when each park closes. So you have to choose which one to see. With a 2-park ticket, decide ahead of time and get to the right park before the show starts.

05 Is there a pre-show ahead of the fireworks?

Yes, a pre-show may be offered before the fireworks, depending on the season. It usually starts 10 minutes before the show. This pre-show changes with the season and that year’s program. It isn’t a given, and it may not run at all during some periods. Check the schedule in the app.
