The lost restaurants of Disneyland Paris are places, now closed, that were part of years of holidays. Some are gone for good, others were renamed or absorbed into a new restaurant. Here’s a tour of the best known, area by area: what they were, when they closed and what replaced them.

A quick note before you start: a "lost" restaurant can mean two things. Either the place closed and nothing reopened in its place. Or the building is still there but the name and theme have changed. I make it clear each time.

The lost restaurants of Disney Village

Disney Village went through a big wave of transformation in the early 2020s. Several long-standing places closed to make way for new concepts. For the restaurants still open, see where to eat in Disney Village.

Planet Hollywood

This was the big film and celebrity themed restaurant at the station end of the Village. Its giant globe was often the first thing visitors saw when arriving by train. Opened in 1996, it closed on 7 January 2023. The building then became part of the Village redevelopment works.

I was there on closing day, 7 January 2023, and it was an emotional moment. I even kept the special glass made for the occasion, with the date printed on it, as a souvenir.

Of all the landmarks lost in recent years, it’s probably the one first-time visitors knew best.

King Ludwig’s Castle

This Bavarian-inspired restaurant, in a castle-shaped building on the lakeside, was the only German restaurant in the Village. Opened in 2003, it closed on 8 January 2023. The space became The Royal Pub, an English-style pub, which opened in February 2023.

Café Mickey

Café Mickey was one of the resort’s main character dining spots outside the hotels. Disney characters went from table to table, which made it very popular with families with children. Opened in the early 2000s on the shores of Lake Disney, it stopped its character dining in 2020.

The building was then transformed: it’s now home to Brasserie Rosalie, a French brasserie that opened on 8 December 2023. The closure of Café Mickey marked the start of the Village’s big transformation.

The lost restaurants of Disneyland Park

The first park has lost a few places over the decades. Some closed for good, others changed name and theme but kept the same building.

Buzz Lightyear’s Pizza Planet Restaurant

Pizza Planet was the Toy Story themed restaurant in Discoveryland. Its all-you-can-eat pizza and drinks deal, at a low price, made it a family favourite, along with its famous "Pizza Burger". Opened in 1996, it closed for good in August 2016.

The building, originally a temporary structure, was never replaced. In Discoveryland, Café Hyperion is now the main place to eat.

Café des Visionnaires

Here’s a restaurant few visitors ever knew. Café des Visionnaires, in Discoveryland, served unusual food prepared at the counter (salads, paella, couscous in cast-iron pans), in a futuristic setting paying tribute to Jules Verne. It opened on 12 April 1992 and closed on 15 September 1995 for lack of visitors.

The space then became an amusement arcade (the Arcade des Visionnaires), before being redeveloped in 2002.

In all honesty, I wasn’t born yet when Café des Visionnaires closed in 1995. I’m not writing from my own memories, but from what the early fans say.

Fantasia Gelati

This original ice cream parlour, opened on 12 April 1992 in the Italian corner of Fantasyland, served Italian-style ice cream inspired by the film Fantasia. It was the go-to ice cream stop in the area. It closed at the end of 2022.

The building was absorbed by the neighbouring extension of Pizzeria Bella Notte, which added a Luca-themed dining room.

Aux Épices Enchantées

In the African part of Adventureland, this original restaurant served food inspired by Africa, Asia and the Caribbean, surrounded by African artefacts. Opened in 1992, its name and concept disappeared in May 1995.

It wasn’t an outright closure: the building was kept and rethemed around The Lion King. Today it’s Hakuna Matata restaurant, still open.

Blue Lagoon Restaurant

Blue Lagoon was a restaurant like no other: you ate by the water, inside the Pirates of the Caribbean ride itself, in the atmosphere of a Caribbean beach at night (fireflies, crickets). Opened in 1992, it lost its name and theme in 2017.

Again, it’s a rename rather than a closure: the place still exists as Captain Jack’s - Restaurant des Pirates, rethemed around Jack Sparrow when the ride reopened on 24 July 2017.

The lost restaurants of the second park

The second park, long known as Walt Disney Studios Park, has gone through two major transformations: the creation of Avengers Campus and the redevelopment of Studio 1. Several restaurants disappeared or changed along the way.

Restaurant en Coulisse

Restaurant en Coulisse was the big quick-service restaurant in Studio 1, at the park entrance. Themed as a lunch break on a film set, it had a huge capacity and was often the first restaurant you came across on the way in. Opened with the park in 2002, it closed on 24 April 2024, along with the whole of Studio 1.

The building was transformed: it’s now home to The Hollywood Gardens Restaurant, which opened on 15 May 2025 in the redeveloped Studio 1, themed as a garden party for a film premiere.

Hep Cat Corner

This small counter in Studio 1 served ice cream, pastries and drinks, with a jazz feel. Handy for a quick break at the park entrance, it was added to the Studio 1 frontage in 2013. It closed in April 2024 with the rest of Studio 1 and didn’t come back when it reopened in May 2025.

Restaurant des Stars

This was the second park’s only all-you-can-eat buffet, with around 300 seats and Hollywood Art Deco decor lined with portraits of film stars. Known for its good value and wide choice of desserts, it closed on 6 January 2020.

The building became part of PYM Kitchen, the Avengers Campus all-you-can-eat buffet, which opened on 20 July 2022.

Disney Blockbuster Café

A counter-service restaurant themed around Disney blockbusters, it had dining rooms decorated by franchise (Pirates of the Caribbean, High School Musical, Iron Man). It was the main place to eat in the Backlot area. It opened in 2009 and closed in September 2019 to make way for Avengers Campus.

The site is now home to Stark Factory, the Avengers Campus restaurant that opened on 20 July 2022.

Café des Cascadeurs

Café des Cascadeurs was a real 1950s American diner (an original diner brought over from New Jersey and rebuilt in the park), serving burgers. It was one of the oldest restaurant buildings in any Disney park, and often mentioned for that reason. It stopped trading under that name in 2020.

The original building was kept and rethemed: it’s now the Super Diner at Avengers Campus, which opened on 20 July 2022.

The lost restaurants of the Disney hotels

Hotel renovations have seen off several memorable restaurants, especially at the Disneyland Hotel, which was completely redesigned. For the hotel restaurants still open, see my guide to eating at the Disney hotels.

Inventions

Inventions was the Disneyland Hotel’s character buffet, one of the main places to meet Disney characters at your table. Its decor was inspired by the Victorian era (steam engines, cogs, copper). It stopped when the hotel closed for renovation and never reopened under that name.

In the same spot you’ll now find Royal Banquet, a royal-themed character buffet that opened on 25 January 2024.

California Grill

This was the Disneyland Hotel’s fine dining restaurant, serving Californian cuisine with a seasonal menu and an open kitchen. There since 1992, it closed when the hotel shut for renovation (2020-2021).

The same space is now home to La Table de Lumière, a French fine dining restaurant with decor inspired by Beauty and the Beast, which opened in January 2024.

Café Fantasia

Café Fantasia was the Disneyland Hotel’s piano bar, a place to unwind themed on the film Fantasia. There since 1992, it closed when the hotel shut for renovation (2020-2021). The bar in the same spot is now called Fleur de Lys and opened in January 2024.

Parkside Diner

At Disney’s Hotel New York, Parkside Diner was a buffet restaurant with a retro American diner look, recalling New York from the 1930s to the 1950s. It closed in 2019, when the hotel shut to become The Art of Marvel.

The hotel’s family restaurant is now called Downtown Restaurant, which opened in June 2021 with the new Marvel theme.

Frequently asked questions

01 Does Café Mickey still exist at Disneyland Paris?

No. Café Mickey, the character restaurant on the shores of Lake Disney, stopped serving in 2020. The building became Brasserie Rosalie, a full-service French brasserie (from breakfast to dinner) that opened on 8 December 2023. Many guides still mention the old name, hence the frequent confusion.

02 Has the Pizza Planet at Disneyland closed?

Yes. Buzz Lightyear’s Pizza Planet Restaurant, in Discoveryland, closed for good in 2016. The building has never been replaced. In Discoveryland, Café Hyperion is now the main place to eat.

03 Why have so many restaurants closed at Disneyland Paris?

The closures mainly come from three waves: the shutdown linked to the health crisis in 2020, the major hotel renovations (Disneyland Hotel, Hotel New York) and the transformation of the second park with Avengers Campus, followed by the redevelopment of Studio 1. The overhaul of Disney Village has also seen several restaurants disappear.

04 Is there still a character buffet at Disneyland Paris?

Yes. Even though Café Mickey and Inventions have closed, there’s a character buffet at the Disneyland Hotel called Royal Banquet, open since January 2024. For the other hotel restaurants, see the article on Disney hotel restaurants.
