At a glance

Thunder Mesa Mercantile Building is Frontierland’s main general store, across from Big Thunder Mountain in Disneyland Park.

From the outside, it stands out with three side-by-side facades, each with its own sign. They look like three separate businesses, but inside it’s a single connected space. Each sign targets a type of customer from the fictional town of Thunder Mesa. Tobias Norton & Sons - Frontier Traders caters to trappers and takes its name from a character in the movie Davy Crockett, King of the Wild Frontier, produced by Walt Disney in 1955. Bonanza Outfitters supplies the townsfolk with clothing: its name refers to a river that drew crowds during the gold rush, and to the American TV series Bonanza, which aired on NBC from 1959 to 1973. Eureka Mining Supplies and Assay Office serves miners and gold prospectors, and its facade shows the founding year 1852: "Eureka" was what prospectors shouted when they struck a nugget.

The architecture borrows from the mining towns of the nineteenth-century American West, and the land is frozen in time around the 1880s. The interior has rustic decor: solid wood shelves, oil lamps, period display cases, mining tools, hunting trophies, and relics of the westward expansion. An old mine elevator is even built into the set: listen closely, and you’ll sometimes hear pickaxes clanging, as if the shop connected to the Big Thunder Mountain mine.

The selection is wide: Disney PhotoPass+, food, drinks, clothes for adults and kids, accessories, pins, figurines, Disney ears, art pieces, toys, plush, and home goods.

What sets it apart

Three shops in one Western storefront. From the outside, you see three separate facades for three made-up businesses in the mining town of Thunder Mesa: Tobias Norton & Sons for trappers, Bonanza Outfitters for clothing, and Eureka Mining Supplies for gold prospectors. Inside, the connected rooms are filled with mining tools, hunting trophies, and relics of the 1880s push into the American West.

History

Its doors first opened on April 12, 1992, the same day as Disneyland Park. Few people know this: the building was up before the park was even finished, and during construction it served as a souvenir stand for the workers and the build crew.

Hands down my favorite shop in the park. And not just because it faces Big Thunder Mountain, my favorite ride: each of the three facades tells its own story, and the interior is packed with detail like few other places. It feels like stepping into the general store of a real mining town.

I stop in every time I pass through Frontierland, and there’s always a detail I hadn’t spotted before. It’s also one of the best-stocked shops in the park: if you only visit one in Frontierland, make it this one.

Your questions about this shop

01 Where can you buy Disney merchandise at Disneyland Paris?

There are four main places to shop: Disneyland Park (Main Street U.S.A. above all, plus every land), Disney Adventure World, Disney Village (open to everyone, no park ticket required), and, if you book an official Disney hotel, the shop inside your hotel. My dedicated article walks you through the main shops.

02 Is there a way to shop without lugging bags around all day?

Yes. The Shopping Service lets you have your purchases sent to a pickup point, so you can collect them later at the same shop, at another shop on your way out of the park, or even at your Disney hotel’s shop. The service is free in most shops (with a minimum purchase). Just ask the cast member at checkout.

03 What are the shop hours?

Shops inside the parks roughly follow park hours, often opening a little earlier on Main Street U.S.A. and closing a little later after the nighttime show. Disney Village shops have their own hours, usually running later into the evening. You’ll find the exact hours in the Disneyland Paris app.

04 Can you buy Disneyland Paris merchandise online?

There’s no official Disneyland Paris online store. To shop from home, you can use the Disney Store website (formerly shopDisney), which sells official Disney merchandise and sometimes a few items specific to Disneyland Paris. At the resort itself, you buy everything directly in the shops.
