At a glance

The Emporium is the largest shop in Disneyland Park, set on the left-hand corner where Town Square meets the main stretch of Main Street U.S.A.

Its architecture takes its cue from the department stores of small American towns in the early twentieth century: a Victorian facade, striped awnings, balconies with flowers, lit-up display windows, and ornate ceilings. The facade bears the date 1892, exactly one hundred years before Euro Disney opened. Four separate entrances serve the shop: one on the corner facing New Century Notions - Flora’s Boutique, one on the central walkway leading to Sleeping Beauty Castle, one through Liberty Arcade, and a last one near Dapper Dan’s Hair Cuts, across from the entrance to Walt’s restaurant.

Inside, the space is punctuated by decorative columns, mosaic floors, stained glass, and a glass dome held up by a gilded metal frame, decorated with the names and portraits of early twentieth-century inventors: Alexander Graham Bell, George Washington Carver, Robert Fulton, George Eastman, the Wright brothers, Thomas Edison, and Nikola Tesla, among others. Hidden Mickeys (Mickey silhouettes tucked into the decor) are concealed in the railing under the dome. On the ceiling, a system of little baskets traveling on rails recalls the days when clerks weren’t allowed to handle money: payments zipped off to a separate room run by the bookkeepers. Behind the registers at the back, two murals show the Emporiums of California and Florida, dated 1855 and 1871, one hundred years before Disneyland and Walt Disney World. Outside, a window reads "Elias Disney - Contractor - Est. 1895", a tribute to Walt’s father, and the upstairs windows note that Pongo works there as a volunteer firefighter.

The selection covers most of the park’s categories: souvenirs, mugs, figures, plush, stationery, Disney ears, pins, adult and kids’ clothing, accessories, costumes, dolls, tableware, seasonal items, and PhotoPass+ service.

What sets it apart

A glass dome adorned with portraits of inventors. The central glass dome, held up by a gilded metal frame, features the names and portraits of famous inventors, a quiet tribute to the century of innovation that Main Street U.S.A. recreates. Four separate entrances lead into the park’s largest shop, which covers almost every category of Disney souvenir across several large connected spaces.

History

Like the park itself, the Emporium welcomed its first guests on April 12, 1992. Edison Street, right beside it, honors Thomas Edison: along Main Street, it’s where gas lamps give way to electric ones, echoing the shift that happened around the turn of the twentieth century.

  • With so many categories, tracking down a specific item can take time

My verdict

The park’s big department store, packed with little details. Raise your eyes: inventors’ portraits line the dome, a tiny car once ran along ceiling rails carrying cash… and at one point, a Toy Story soldier was tucked away in the decor too.

My one real complaint: crowds are common, and at peak times the aisles feel tight. Go at park opening or during the mid-afternoon dip.

Best time to go

Aim for park opening or mid-afternoon: at the end of the day, it’s one of the most packed shops in the park, with everyone doing their last-minute shopping.

Your questions about this shop

01 Where can you buy Disney merchandise at Disneyland Paris?

There are four main places to shop: Disneyland Park (Main Street U.S.A. above all, plus every land), Disney Adventure World, Disney Village (open to everyone, no park ticket required), and, if you book an official Disney hotel, the shop inside your hotel. My dedicated article walks you through the main shops.

02 Is there a way to shop without lugging bags around all day?

Yes. The Shopping Service lets you have your purchases sent to a pickup point, so you can collect them later at the same shop, at another shop on your way out of the park, or even at your Disney hotel’s shop. The service is free in most shops (with a minimum purchase). Just ask the cast member at checkout.

03 What are the shop hours?

Shops inside the parks roughly follow park hours, often opening a little earlier on Main Street U.S.A. and closing a little later after the nighttime show. Disney Village shops have their own hours, usually running later into the evening. You’ll find the exact hours in the Disneyland Paris app.

04 Can you buy Disneyland Paris merchandise online?

There’s no official Disneyland Paris online store. To shop from home, you can use the Disney Store website (formerly shopDisney), which sells official Disney merchandise and sometimes a few items specific to Disneyland Paris. At the resort itself, you buy everything directly in the shops.
