At a glance

Cowboy Cookout Barbecue is a quick-service restaurant in Frontierland, in Disneyland Park. The building is a fictional red barn called Cottonwood Creek, straight out of classic American Westerns.

The exterior follows the Wild West look: red wooden facade with barn doors, shutters, shingle awnings, stacked barrels, big yellow cartwheels, painted silos, rustic lanterns and vintage signs. The indoor dining room keeps a rustic feel, while a large outdoor terrace shaded by big parasols welcomes visitors with wooden tables and a view over Frontierland.

Service is at the counter, and you can use Click & Collect in the mobile app. The menu focuses on traditional American food, especially grilled and smoked meats and Tex-Mex dishes.

What makes it stand out

Western barbecue in the barn. This huge red wooden building recalls the American ranches of the gold rush. The menu puts smoked pork ribs, grilled chicken and corn on the cob in the spotlight. Country musicians sometimes play on the indoor stage to liven up your family meal.

History

Opened on 12 April 1992, this large restaurant is one of the founding buildings of Frontierland. It’s one of the largest indoor dining spaces in the park, built as a huge barn from the American West.

Over the years, the venue has regularly hosted live country bands on its indoor stage, although neither its walls nor its name have changed since opening day.

My verdict

Cowboy Cookout Barbecue is a counter service restaurant in Frontierland set in a big red Western barn, specialising in grilled meats. Its strength is the tasty barbecue food in a Wild West atmosphere that carries on from Big Thunder Mountain right next door.

I’ve eaten here several times and it’s one of my favourite quick-service restaurants in the park, at around €15 per adult and €10 per child, in a spot open since 1992. I love the ribs and the way the theme flows on from the ride next door, and the big shaded terrace is a bonus. The downside is the very short opening hours, so aim for the right time slot. The menu focuses on grilled food and a Click & Collect service is available.

I recommend it for barbecue lovers and Western theme fans. Less suited if you want variety or flexible opening hours.

Your questions about this restaurant

01 Where can you eat cheaply in the Disneyland Paris parks?

To keep costs down, go for the quick-service counters rated €. Casey’s Corner serves hot dogs on Main Street, Café Hyperion does burgers and nuggets in Discoveryland, Colonel Hathi’s Outpost Restaurant serves pizza slices in Adventureland, and Cowboy Cookout Barbecue in Frontierland is still a good deal. Over at Disney Adventure World, Stark Factory and Super Diner remain affordable. Tip: Mobile Order (Click & Collect) in the app also lets you order at some counters without having to queue. And if you’re a bit peckish, a snack (waffle, churros, ice cream) for €5 to €10 does the job nicely.

02 Are there kids’ menus in the Disney restaurants?

Yes, almost all Disneyland Paris restaurants offer a child price (ages 3-11). In the all-you-can-eat buffets, children pay around half price: Agrabah Café at €25, Cape Cod at €25, La Cantina at €20. Classic table-service restaurants also have a children’s set menu with a suitable starter, main course and dessert. At the quick-service counters, you’ll find kids’ set meals with a drink and a dessert included. You can ask for a high chair when you book, using the "special request" field.

03 Are there vegetarian and vegan options in the Disneyland Paris restaurants?

Yes, more and more Disneyland Paris restaurants offer vegetarian and vegan options. The Lucky Nugget Saloon in Frontierland serves a full vegan set menu, and Toad Hall Restaurant in Fantasyland has really nice breaded plant-based crispy bites. Most other table-service restaurants and buffets have at least one vegetarian dish on the menu. Simpler buffets such as Agrabah Café or Cape Cod also offer meat-free alternatives. To check the details, download my free file by email with all the Disneyland Paris restaurant menus: that way you can spot the veggie options before your visit.

04 Where can you get an afternoon snack or a quick bite in the parks?

The parks are full of kiosks and snack stands for when you’re a bit peckish. For something sweet, there’s Cookie Kitchen on Main Street U.S.A., March Hare Refreshments in Fantasyland, waffle and churros stands just about everywhere, and roaming popcorn and ice cream sellers. For something savoury, the hot dogs at Casey’s Corner. Allow €5 to €10 per snack. Little tip: some stands sell reusable collectible popcorn buckets that make lovely souvenirs and give you refills at a reduced price all day.

05 How does Mobile Order (Click & Collect) work for Disney restaurants, and which ones take part?

Mobile Order (Click & Collect) lets you pre-order your meal in the official Disneyland Paris mobile app and pick it up at the time you choose, without queuing. Log in to the app, choose the restaurant and the time slot, select your dishes, pay online (the annual pass code can be applied) and get your voucher by email. The 8 participating restaurants are: Au Chalet de la Marionnette (Fantasyland), Café Hyperion (Discoveryland), Casa de Coco (Frontierland), Casey’s Corner (Main Street), Cowboy Cookout Barbecue (Frontierland), Hakuna Matata (Adventureland), Last Chance Cafe (Frontierland) and The Hollywood Gardens Restaurant (World Premiere at Disney Adventure World). The service is free, but orders are for the same day only.
