At a glance

Mickey’s Dazzling Christmas Parade! is the seasonal Christmas parade at Disneyland Park, performed every year as part of the Disney Enchanted Christmas season.

Directed by Emmanuel Lenormand, a show director at Disneyland Paris, it won a Brass Ring Award in 2022 for "Most Creative Christmas/Holiday Show" from the International Association of Amusement Parks and Attractions (IAAPA). It runs twice a day on two different routes, with show-stops featuring choreography in Central Plaza and then in Town Square, where it accompanies the Christmas tree lighting ceremony.

Five sparkling floats make up the procession, each with its own look and music. The first, "Mickey’s Holiday Express", is a cartoon train led by Mickey, preceded by fairies gliding along the route and joined by Duffy the teddy bear. Next comes "Minnie’s Christmas Delights", a sweet-treat float where Minnie, Clarabelle Cow and Horace Horsecollar move among gingerbread men and shortbread biscuits. The third, "Donald’s Winter Wonderland", recalls the carved wood of Swiss cuckoo clocks in a Nordic Christmas style and carries Donald, Daisy, Scrooge McDuck and Huey, Dewey and Louie.

The fourth float, "A Fairytale Waltz", features the Disney Princesses (Cinderella, Jasmine, Tiana, Aurora and others) in glittering winter outfits. Finally, "Santa’s Magic" closes the procession with Santa Claus in his sleigh led by his reindeer, a giant snow globe holding a miniature of the park’s Christmas tree, and Tinker Bell as the grand finale. The soundtrack is built on the original song "Shine a Light" by Yaron Spiwak (Walt Disney Imagineering), arranged for each float as an original, electronic percussion, orchestral or romantic symphonic version, with medleys of "Jingle Bells", "Tant qu’il y aura Noël" and "Santa Claus is coming to town" for the final float.

It replaced Disney’s Christmas Parade, which had grown over several years as themed floats were added one by one.

What makes it stand out

The only parade where Santa Claus rides by in person on his sleigh. The floats stop on Central Plaza for choreographed routines facing the crowd, and the parade ends with Santa’s sparkling arrival. It’s one of the rare official moments when he appears in the park.

History

The festive season has always come with its own parades. Before Mickey’s Dazzling Christmas Parade! arrived, the resort ran Disney’s Christmas Parade, a show that grew over several years as new themed floats were added one after another. This brand-new, much larger production opened for the 2021 Christmas season.

Dreamed up and produced by Disney Live Entertainment, the parade is built around lighting that changes through the day: it runs in a classic daytime look, then transforms at nightfall as the lights on its floats and costumes sync up. Designing it took many months of technical work on the built-in LED systems, which made the complex show-stops on Central Plaza possible.

04

Theme & story

The parade celebrates Christmas with Mickey, Minnie, their friends and Santa Claus. The illuminated floats roll by to festive Disney music, with show-stops on Central Plaza and in Town Square for the tree lighting ceremony, and a finale with Santa riding past on his sparkling sleigh.

My verdict

For me, this is by far one of the most polished seasonal productions at the resort. The look of it is striking: the snow on Main Street, the detailed costumes and the arrival of Santa Claus bring a real burst of good cheer. The lighting of the giant tree rounds it all off spectacularly and leaves a lasting memory.

The main challenge is the crowd, which really swells over the festive season, so you have to settle in well ahead to get a decent view. My tip: if you get the chance, always go for the evening performance. That’s when the lights on the floats and the tree really come into their own.

Map & getting there

The parade takes place in Disneyland Park on Main Street U.S.A. and at the foot of the castle.

It follows a different route for each of its two daily performances, between Fantasyland and Town Square by way of Central Plaza and Main Street U.S.A.

The first performance starts in Fantasyland, does two loops of Central Plaza with a show-stop, then heads down Main Street U.S.A. to Town Square, where it ends after the Ribbons and Bows Hat Shop.

The second performance starts at the park entrance, does two loops of the tree in front of the station with show-stops, goes up Main Street U.S.A., does two loops of Central Plaza with show-stops, then ends in Fantasyland in front of "it’s a small world".

A paid premium viewing area is set up near the Plaza Gardens fountain, facing Central Plaza. An area for wheelchair users is usually set up by the hub.

Your questions about this show

01 Which Christmas parade is on at Disneyland Paris?

Mickey’s Dazzling Christmas Parade!, at Disneyland Park, from 7 November to 6 January. There are two performances a day, including an illuminated night-time version that I love. I share the best viewing spots in my dedicated article.

02 What is the paid premium viewing area for a parade?

It’s a reserved area near the castle that you buy in the Disneyland Paris app (Buy section, then Shows and parades). The price varies by date, around €20 per person (free for under-3s). There’s no seating and you need to be there at least 10 minutes before the start time.

03 How early should you find a spot for a parade or show?

Allow 30 to 45 minutes at quiet times, and up to 1 hour to 1 hour 30 at busy times for the best spots. The details for each spot are in my dedicated articles. If you buy paid access, just turn up 10 to 30 minutes before.

04 Where can you find today’s show and parade times?

In the Disneyland Paris app (the Today in the park section) or on my blog. The times change every day depending on the season and the crowds, so I recommend checking that same morning.

05 Can shows and parades be cancelled?

Yes. In severe weather (high winds, storms, heavy rain), night-time shows can be cancelled without notice or replacement. Parades sometimes are too. Check the status on the day in the Disneyland Paris app.
