Space Mountain returns to De la Terre à la Lune

The biggest announcement for the park: Space Mountain is going back to its original theme, "De la Terre à la Lune", inspired by Jules Verne’s novel and its retro-futuristic look. The current version, Star Wars Hyperspace Mountain, will close at the end of 2027, followed by several months of construction work (the reopening date isn’t known yet). In store: new art direction by Walt Disney Imagineering Paris, Steve Bramson’s remastered score, new sets and new effects. You’ll find all the practical details on my page for Space Mountain.

A Lion King attraction at Disney Adventure World

Disney Adventure World (the second park, formerly Walt Disney Studios Park) will be home to an attraction inspired by The Lion King. It will be a water ride with three drops, including a 16-metre drop from Pride Rock. The headline feature: the world’s very first Audio-Animatronics figure of Scar (the film’s villain had never had an animated figure of this kind before).

The attraction will sit near Adventure Bay and World of Frozen, with a shop, a place to eat and character meets. The foundations are already in place and construction has started.

A new attraction inspired by Up

At Disney Adventure World, another new addition is expected during 2027: Wilderness Explorers Sky Swings, a swing ride inspired by the film Up, set along Adventure Way. The seats spin above a themed garden and give a panoramic view over the park.

A new daytime parade in 2028

Disneyland Park will get a new daytime parade in 2028, the first since Disney Stars on Parade launched in 2017. It will bring together Mickey and friends at the head of the procession, followed by films such as Aladdin (Jasmine), The Princess and the Frog (Tiana), Tangled and Coco (Miguel), on new floats combining polished design and the latest technology. Disney mentions over 10,000 hours of preparation and around 225 costume sketches.

What is D23, and why Disney+?

D23 is the big official Disney fan event. It takes place every two years in Anaheim, California, and brings together what’s new in film, TV series and the parks. New for 2026: for the first time, the parks panel (the "Disney Experiences Showcase") was streamed live on Disney+. These announcements were made during that presentation, overnight from 15 to 16 August.

What’s next

I’m following these projects closely and I’ll cover them as they progress, in dedicated articles and pages, as soon as Disney shares more information: dates, final names and artwork.
