At a glance

Here’s how Star Tours works: you board a Starspeeder 1000 piloted by C-3PO, with R2-D2 as the astromech droid, for a bumpy flight across the Star Wars galaxy. Everything is in 3D with glasses and the storyline is randomly generated on every flight: a rebel is spotted on board, a villain tries to stop them, and the Starspeeder has to pass through two or three planets picked from a long list before heading back to base.

With over 250 combinations, you can visit Jakku, Crait, Hoth, Naboo, Kashyyyk, Tatooine, Coruscant, Peridea and many other legendary places, right up to the worlds of the series Ahsoka, The Mandalorian and Andor. A bonus for fans: the Starspeeder can sometimes land on Batuu, the planet of the Star Wars: Galaxy’s Edge areas in the American parks, never mentioned in the films.

What makes it stand out

The 3D simulator with multiple destinations. A moving cabin synchronised with a stereoscopic film sends passengers on chases across the Star Wars galaxy. The combinations of scenes change from one trip to the next, so the experience feels fresh every time. Moderate thrills, suitable for much of the family.

History

Opened on 12 April 1992 with the park under the name Star Tours, the ride used the flight simulator created for Disneyland Anaheim in 1987, also found at Tokyo Disneyland (1989) and Disney’s studios park in Orlando (1989).

After the original version closed at the end of 2016, Star Tours: The Adventures Continue opened on 26 March 2017. It is the new multi-destination generation that first appeared in the US in 2011, which offered 96 different trips at the time. The large X-Wing that stood at the entrance then made way for an arch bearing the Star Tours company logo. On 5 April 2024, a major update added the worlds of Ahsoka, The Mandalorian and Andor, taking the number of combinations to over 250.

My verdict

Julie
Julie ★★★★☆ 200+ visits since 2023

Star Tours: The Adventures Continue is a 3D simulator set in the Star Wars galaxy, with over 250 random combinations of planets and characters. Every flight has a different, randomly generated storyline, with regular updates that bring in the latest Disney+ productions. Minimum height 1.02 m, and it lasts 5 minutes.

If you like this kind of experience, I really recommend riding it two or three times in the day to see different combinations: that’s the whole point. The queue itself is incredibly immersive, so don’t underestimate it. If you’re prone to motion sickness, watch out: the simulator can really shake you about. And as with the other rides with a height requirement, the Rider Switch (formerly Baby Switch) ticket is valid here.

Your questions about this ride

01 How can you avoid long queues for the most popular rides?

To avoid long queues at Disneyland Paris, I combine several tactics. First, Single Rider is free and really speeds things up on the rides that offer it, including Crush’s Coaster, Flight Force, Ratatouille and Spider-Man, as long as you’re happy not to ride with your group. Next, Disney Premier Access is a paid service that gives you priority access to the headline rides. If you’re staying in a Disney hotel, Extra Magic Time lets you into the park before official opening, and it’s the best time to ride the popular attractions back to back without queuing. Finally, heading to the most popular rides during a parade or a big show empties the queues considerably.

02 Are the queue times shown in the park reliable?

Yes, the queue times shown in the app or on the screens around the park are generally reliable. They’re often the same as, or slightly longer than, the real wait, which helps you plan your day better.

03 How can I find out if a ride will be closed for refurbishment during my trip?

Disneyland Paris publishes the list of rides closed for refurbishment on its official website, several weeks in advance. Because the parks are open all year round, the maintenance teams sometimes work on days when the parks are open, which leads to temporary closures. My advice: check this calendar (or the one on my blog) before booking, especially if there’s one particular ride you really care about.

04 What are the minimum heights for each ride at Disneyland Paris?

Here are the minimum heights for the thrill rides at Disneyland Paris. In Disneyland Park: Autopia 0.81 m, Star Tours and Big Thunder Mountain 1.02 m, Star Wars Hyperspace Mountain 1.20 m, Indiana Jones and the Temple of Peril 1.40 m. In Disney Adventure World: Toy Soldiers Parachute Drop 0.81 m, The Twilight Zone Tower of Terror 1.02 m, Crush’s Coaster 1.07 m, Avengers Assemble: Flight Force and RC Racer 1.20 m. The other rides have no height restrictions, which makes them ideal for families with young children.

05 Which rides might scare young children?

Several rides at Disneyland Paris can frighten young children even without a height restriction. Blanche-Neige et les Sept Nains, in Fantasyland, has dark scenes with the witch that can catch them off guard. Les Voyages de Pinocchio also has some unsettling scenes. La Tanière du Dragon, under Sleeping Beauty Castle, is home to a very impressive animatronic dragon. Phantom Manor, in Frontierland, plays on a ghostly atmosphere and is really intense for toddlers. Pirates of the Caribbean switches between cheerful moments and darker scenes. I’d suggest watching how your child reacts before you get on.
